I've read somewhere that 3490 has a combined gps/bluetooth chip but cannot find source of info.
I had seen Nuvi 3490 and 3590 with different version of GPS when it come to warehouse at first time. Some sample had a GPS version like 37xx, another had a new version. Sorry but I do not fix this fact on screenshot! So I think SW for 34xx have support for more than one GPS chip...

Actually the firmware has not changed.
Only the Version Number has changed because it was edited.

    3490 is using

    GPS Firmware 2.28.12
    Bluetooth Firmware 3.0.11 p32
    PMIC version 119
    Tsc Version 1.08

I actually think that when 3790 is flashed with 3490 firmware it finds the hardware is different and it does not flash the GPS chip at all.
If the 3490 actually has a better, more accurate GPS Chip then it's impossible to Make a converted unit behave like a 3490 because the chip is actually different.
We don't have concrete evidence of this fact.

Does the 3490 have a different GPS Chip ?

In the previous patched firmware I've changed the GPS firmware also, not only the version number.

It could be also that GPS chip is flashed every time device is started (i.e. it won't work without being flashed with a firmware every time). In fact, I can check that.

This link says that 34xx has a bluetooth module paired with GPS module inside a single chip. But this doesn't necessarily mean that the new GPS module has a completely different firmware. There could be two modules (GPS and bluetooth) inside one chip accessible via separate interfaces. And "mt3328" string inside 34xx and 37xx firmwares suggests that it's probably true.

Is anyone else willing to test it?

No one has ever reported the results concerning accuracy.

I flashed your .rgn , cleared non vol

I cant see big differences, I always get around 5 meters accuracy from my terrace, but I never had problems with accuracy , so my test isnt so relevant even because I havent looked at tracklog like Kanopus suggests, may be I'll test tomorrow ,but better to wait for Neil's test. He can compare 2 devices at a time
No problems for me with logo , it appears normal and stable at start.

mt3328 larger in size than the NL5500. he just did not fit him.
maybe there are regional models 34xx the other revision of PSB and the chip mt3328.
test the accuracy of the coordinates is not on anything, I still find myself 3760-3490 is approximately the same. ±3m
but tomorrow I will try to do the testing under the same conditions 2-3 3760 with one revision PSB.

    Hello guys,

Don't forget. The big issue occurs when GPS is moving.
When stopped, the accuracy is not so bad.

    Regards.

I had found stock e-mail for the first NUVIs 3490 (S/N 2BB******-2BC******) - all are with GM (mt3328 - like 37xx) and PCB V8 or V11 (O35 8GB). The all next generation devices have GT* (NL5500L) and PCB V7 (O36 8GB). Usually I request GarminError.xml from suppliers for determination of memory size .

    @kunix
Flashed the rgn [34xx-new-dsp.bin] to the same unit I had previously flashed with 110101000500.rgn. Approx 6 min solo test appeared to show similar accuracy as both my other 'standard' 37>34 convert, and this unit as 3790 tested with your modded bootloader yesterday. Average around 8m or so accuracy. No time for further testing today.

If i have time tomorrow i'll do a side-by-side with it, the 37>3490 standard convert, a virgin 3790, and a 3590. All 4 units will have hidden track log enabled.

I've been traveling, away from civilization, but now I hope to be able to collaborate: I will write the two rgn Kunix's with a lot of attention and public the results tomorrow, but thanks very much in advance to Kunix for your interest in helping us. In relation to Kanupus's suggestion, a question that also I had in times past, that is, that the inaccuracy is apparent, I can assure you that it is a matter totally overcome for me, ie, the imprecision is undeniable fact, not only by my tests but also those of numerous other users and has relationship with the positioning registered, yes! In addition, the relation of accuracy shown and positioning in the tracklog has a direct relationship on Garmin outdoor gps, which can be seen easily when we are following a trail, and appears to be the result of same calculation algorithm of position. So why would be different in road gps and, more specifically on 3790 modified? Does not seem to me to be very logical.

If they have different algorithms and had not required relation, which the usefulness and reliability of show accuracy, mere ornament? But it is easy to check, just enable the Trip Log (in Map Layers), let the gps in Off Road mode (Pedestrian) and see the level of accuracy in real time, at the time of use. With the original 3790 is all very accurate, but with modified I noticed some barbarities.

In previous posts, Kanupus published links that dealt of the inaccuracy of 3790. Ok, it seems indeed, but considering the quality of the hardware and the fact that Garmin main components (processor, chipset..) are widely used by other manufacturers, is very unlikely to be hardware problem or project (in this case there would be recall). Either way cases like this of imprecision also happened with other releases of Garmin, but have been fixed and has to do with the immaturity of the firmware. Today the accuracy of 3790, shown on the screen and in the practice of use is excellent and was the result of the improvement of calculation algorithms that take into consideration general and specific factors of each model (average internal temperature, etc.), as already mentioned in the initial posts in this topic.

Anyway, for who is doing such tests I suggest consider some conditions for the comparison be more reliable: first leave the gps off road mode, obviously because in normal mode (look on road) the tracklog will be inaccurate. According to leave the gps on Pedestrian mode, because only here (3490 sw) the recording of the tracklog occurs in 1 in 1 second, which equals conditions when compared with other gps. In Automobile mode the recording criteria are automatic involving time, distance, etc, and the criteria may not be exactly the same for different devices. Another important detail: the test has to be done in winding streets and irregular circuit, preferably of difficult reception areas (trees, buildings, etc.). Test on major avenues and open roads do not show significant inaccuracies.
