Have a look from start of [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] for a couple of pages re different gps hw & fw compatibility. Distilling it down to layman's level [mine]i think that the 2 different gps chips, TI & MTK, are the reason that there is a wide divergence in accuracy. One of them is simply more compatible with 34x0 gps fw i think.

How would you know in advance would be what you want to know i suppose. Unless you know which is the problem chip [we don't afaik] as well as which one you have ... then, you don't know. Just flash to 3490 and see what accuracy you get. I've flashed back and forth and accuracy returns to the reported '3 metres' as 3790 everytime (as 3490 i get 4-10 metres everytime, still acceptable).

If you convert let us know the accuracy.

Default Low Accuracy 3790 converted 3490

    Hello for all,
I finally had the courage to convert my 3790 to test running firmware 3490.
First I would like to thank the Angelone (angelozip) Kunix, Rodrigo (rbf) and everyone who contributed in any way to the subject that addresses this topic.

Well I used the firmware has been edited by Knuix (Noeman) Project creators Turbocc rgntools which was compressed boot.ini 3790 along with the 3490 firmware all keeping the same HWID 1101 to install via pre-boot the machine using the updater . exe.
Necessary basic files and folders from a real 3490.

Desconverter is also simple to use the updater and redo the process again with the firmware 3790 also provided by co Kunix.
Necessary basic files and folders from a 3790 or your backup already done before the procedure.

Well put here some pictures that illustrate why I returned my original firmware for GPS Nuvi 3790 Vs5.0 Firm2.60 because the images it is possible to note the great imprecision in satellite reception on the unit converted to 3490, is that GPS does not perform its basic function which is the best route from one point to another.
I think the images speak, no need to explain the failures

1 - Low Precision in the reception of satellites

4- Video shows 'small' failure 3790 converted in 3490
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
In this video you can notice I'm stopped at a traffic light and the GPS indicates I'm at 100km / h approaching the place I am standing due to this delay often missed my ways.

Stay there all my contribution, but I would not recommend converting the 3790 to 3490 while the problem of satellite reception is not resolved if it will be no solution.

    A hug to everyone and

Dear Tad it depends on 3790, some have good accuracy others don't.
I move your post to the proper thread

I tried converting my 3790T to the 34xx 8.20 firmware and this time the satellite accuracy is superb!

I tried checking the accuracy again and I'm getting 6,7, 8, 9, and 10 meter accuracies. Is a 10-meter accuracy still good for these converted units?

15 metre accuracy is acceptable for an automotive GPS unit, most achieve well under that even without software enhancement or WAAS [SBAS]. Up to 10m is fine in my opinion.
