Default Nuvi 3790LMT BT problems & Smartphone Link

    Hi all,

I'm sure these answers are out there somewhere but I've been searching for two days and there is so much information around that I'm having trouble remembering what I've already read.

    1) I just bought a Nuvi 3790LMT, this is a refurb. that I got for a great price and did not want to spend the extra $170 for the 3490. I cannot get my unit to find anything while attempting to find a phone in BT settings. I can see my GPS in my phone and when I try to pair I get an invalid pin error, but it never asks for a pin. I'm running Android 4.0.1 and looking for any suggestions or tricks that may help to get these paired.

    2) The main reason I would want to step up to the new 3490 is for Smartphone Link and I'm wondering if anyone knows a way to get this software onto the 3790? I would use "transform 37xx to 34xx" but I'm afraid I will loose my lifetime maps. I think if I could just get them to pair through BT I may be able to push from Google Maps to the GPS regardless of the SL software, in which case I wouldn't need it.

Any help is greatly appreciated - Thank you!

Edit: I dont think Smartphone link works on 3790, and IMHO cant be enabled .
it's the phone sends a pin to your nuvi when you pair it, you must just accept the pairing.
Try to delete the pairing, restart your Nuvi and repair it again from phone(search for new devices in BT settings).
You wouldnt loose your LT converting to 34xx, tested by me and many users here on Noeman

Enable bluetooth on nuvi and then enable bluetooth on phone and add phone as visible for bluetooth.
Over phone search for nuvi and when phone find nuvi press OK and that is it.
If you must write some pin,by default is on nuvi 1234

Thanks to both, I have tried restarting phone and Nuvi, disabling and re-enabling BT on both but still no luck. I can see the Nuvi from my phone but when I try to pair it doesn't ask me for a pin, both units give me a message telling me it couldn't pair though. From the Nuvi I cannot see the phone when I search. Using Evo 4G running ICS on CM9 port...all of my other BT devices work as expected so I don't think it's the phone. I talked with Garmin customer service rep. and he said "the only Nuvi meant to pair with my phone is the 3590." As far as I know a BT protocol is the same from one unit to the next so not sure how they can say this unit will pair with this phone unless they are basing that on available protocols on each unit. When I told him I bought the 3790 specifically for it's BT capabilities he didn't know what to say.

Catymag - I believe it has been tested thoroughly and have read quite a bit in that thread, just not sure how Garmin hasn't caught on to this? Let me make sure I understand, you are telling me that I can use [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], specifically that latter part of the first post under "Another way to convert 34xx with logo and enable features" and will not loose my LMT? If I flash 3490 firmware it will still work with my 3790 traffic reciever? Thanks for your help, a bit hesitant since I've only had the unit for three days...want to make sure the BT will pair and that I don't have to send it back before I flash anything.

    @NewMC
If you use the files posted in my thread at point: "Another way to convert 34xx with logo and enable features"
You'll have a fully functional 34xx device with LT ,traffic and with these features
    K9F1V
I'm using it since a lot, updating my maps, firmware, using traffic receiver etc.
You just must update ASR and specific files with Mapupdater and with Webupdater for 34xx after conversion

Edit :renewed files, now it will add Video player and premium pois too

Hi, yes phone is set to visible but Nuvi never picks up any phones, I've tried with two different Android phones so far.
