First I flashed with cure 37xx software, because it didn't want the one for 34xx. After that I formatted and flashed it with original soft for 37xx. Than I had working unit 3490, but with the 37xx software. Now I flashed with updater with soft for 3490 and after that with webupdater to the last software.

So your original attempt to backup rgn41 using 37x0 ldr.bin overwrote your 3490's HWID 1376 to 1101. That's why it wouldn't then accept cure3 fw 137601000xxx.rgn made from 34x0 fw but would accept 110101000xxx.rgn made from 37x0 fw.

A caveat to ensure ldr.bin is the correct boot.bin for a unit's HWID.

For nuvi 5000 I can make the backup? The update file are "B074300.update" and not UPDATE.GCD...I can't use RGN_Tool

Your 5000 used firmware in the same .exe format as many other contemporary nuvis of the day, but the contents are different as you've found. Up to version 4.10 was supplied as only an *.exe file which can be extracted with winrar or similar de-compressor to then find B074300.update in Nuvi5000_410/Nuvi5000/Garmin/Updater. However RGN_Tool will not open B074300.update even if the file extension is changed to .rgn or .gcd.

With V4.10, it was supplied also as an rgn file, named Nuvi5000_regionfileonly__410.rgn and that can be opened with RGN_Tool but doesn't obtain a boot.bin.

I'm unable to say whether 5000 can have region 41 dumped because of the way this firmware is compiled. Certainly other conventional OS models of that time such as 2x0, 3x0, 6x0 could not have 41 dumped to SD anyway even though they had conventional boot.bin in their fw.

nuvi5000 V4.10.rgn file can be downloaded from the Perry site:
    Code:

Using RGN_Tool to obtain a boot.bin proves problematic because it only displays 'virtual_image.bin' in first section where 'boot.bin' would normally be and no other sections are populated. virtual_image.bin is 69,754,880 bytes [~66.5 MiB] which comprises all of the firmware.

Maybe one of the Navigation Software Experts can explain further.

Nuvi 5000 is Linux-based, unlike most Garmin devices, which are Garmin-OS based. Therefore, I don't think it even has flash region 41. Most probably, NV data is stored inside some file on the internal filesystem.

the unit rebooted as normal but it didn't say if the backup was succesfull. am i doing something wrong?

For newer devices like 3597, 2797 etc (2013 & later) you should change the script in update.txt because MicroSD has been changed from 1 to 2

    From

    rrgn,41,1:/41.bin
    reboot

    To

    rrgn,41,2:/41.bin
    reboot
