    Default Clear Nonvol

    What is the "Nonvol" memory that can be cleared by our units test mode (long press on speed dial)?

    Clear the non-volatile memory:
    Speedometer -> Developer Info -> Non-volatile -> Clear non-volatile.

    Clear non-volatile memory probably is more complete than Master reset
    Garmin's Nuvi's do not have a hard drive. Everything is stored in memory.
    NVM or non-volatile memory,it is Nuvi memory that can retain some stored information even when not powered. Some files, like the Operating System files, are stored in non-volatile memory and others like POI files are stored in volatile memory that is kept alive by the battery.
    Removing the battery will completely erase everything in volatile memory-
    Clearing Non Vol erases all the files added from your usage since you powered it the first time.

    catymag, you are not correct here. First of all, no info inside a nuvi is kept alive by the battery except contents of the RAM (which doesn't contain the internal filesystem, obviously).
    And second, the flash chip is logically divided into so called regions by unit software. There is one region for non-vol memory, one for the internal filesystem, one for fw_all.bin, and so on.
    So technically NVM and internal filesystem are of the same kind.

    Operating Syatem Files that I updated since I bought it are stored in the flash memory, I can see them.
    I didn't think that will be something to do with operating system - erasing something like that will render the device unfunctional. They won't have that in a menu...

    I was thinking that is has to do something with the "TCM" settings that are memorized in the receiver's nvflash?

    It is safe to clear NonVol.(similar to hard reset)
    You will lose your personal settings.
    Backup your Favourites first.
