Just to be sure I've understand, you can write a code to be included in boot.bin, included in gupdate.gcd, and this code can dump (part of) the regions of the eprom that probably contain the voice. WOW!

As you can gather from the last five letters of my nick this is not my point of view. May be it's not necessary to have this 360€ mod if we can have a full European model for dumping the original regions. In this case I must to be sure I don't damage the bike of my friend not to be slaughtered.

LOL! You don't understand how i could possibly know that? That's a 'back-handed compliment' to which i take absolutely no offence. No, i haven't suddenly become fw savvy overnight Kunix and the simple explanation is i was guessing, hence the '?'. My knowledge of fw is still as shallow as the statement 'the cheque is in the mail'. I don't even have access to a GW presently. My interest here is somewhat academic as i've said before, because of the way US fw V4.50 & 4.60 allows the GW Navis to use NT maps and because i believe/hope there may be a hw relationship between 26xx SPs and the GW units which will allow a fw mod to similarly enable the SPs to break free of non-NT legacy maps.

There was a language pack issued by Garmin for the 26xx series and it loads 7,857,408 bytes to region 0x11. The D0158_220.rgn uses the boot.bin from V4.40. Maybe it will be of use to you, if so here's the zipped exe: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. I really haven't a clue what it does.

    @carlinux
Yes, he can do that if he says so, and probably while tap-dancing and eating custard simultaneously.
I hope for your sake kunix finds the time [maybe then he'll feel obliged to help me too.]

Yes, I can do it. I'm doing it for almost 4 years.

I wasn't talking about the mod guy. He is not willing to participate obviously I was talking about any user of his mod. We can also try dumping European models, I don't mind. Probably, with exactly the same boot.bin after changing its HWID.
As long as we don't flash any regions (GCD with just boot.bin inside would suffice in this case, as it doesn't flash region 5, unlike most modern nuvis) and we're able to remove GCD file (we can remove CF card), it's not dangerous.

No compliments intended I just haven't seen that region 0x11 before, so I was surprised. Now your explanation made me understand.

A 'back-handed compliment' is a somewhere between a compliment and insult in colloquial English. I shouldn't use obscure terms on an international forum (and i was joking anyway).

    Everything in its time naturally.

I understood this phrase correctly And therefore my "no compliments intended" should be understood as "no offence intended".

    Hi everyone,
i am new on this forum.
I have a 2006 US Goldwing with a 2009 US gps unit installed by the previous owner.
This guy solved in this expensive way the problem of map updates before the release of updated firmwares.
Anyway i am still disappointed with the capabilities of this system.
I think that we all are doing our personal research to solve different problems:
how the firmware manage the nt maps
how we can change the language
how we can use EU firmware on US machines
    and so on...
We need to do all the work by ourself because we don't have any help from Honda or Garmin side.
My personal interest is to change one part of the firmware that is related to the warning messages on the screen.
In particular i am afraid with the message "Poor GPS Signal" popping up when the received gps signal goes down for a while.
I live in a mountain area with lot of tunnels and trees and i have this message on the screen most of the time.
Another need is to use the navi controls when the bike is moving.
I started my searches on the net and also had some mail exchange with carlinux. I am happy to meet him here also.
If i can help i had a look to the sys.bin that was on the original sd card (not cf card, my navi is 2009 US) with a simple hex editor.
Near to the end of the file there are all system messages like calculating, Poor gps signal, recalculating, lost gps signal etc. and also all the words the spelling voice uses like turn, continue, left, right, for, kilometers and so on.
It will be interesting to see if the 2.60 EU firmware has this words in english or not.
A big block of the software contains also third part software (GNU) with carachter sets etc.
I was unable for now to understand what the software do because i don't have any software for disassembling.
I had a look also to the gupdate.gcd ver. 4.60 US and 2.60 EU but is a different format so the hex editor can't help me.
I know that Fred H. in this link has rewritten some code but without too much luck.
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
Now i will try to read the sd actually installed, maybe i can say more.
    Regards

@pharmaweb, thank you so much for you happyness to meet me here.
As I understand you are asking for something like EPT (Enhanced Position Technology) function because you want to simulate a progression of the vehicle instead of unit-locking, but i think this is not present at all in the navigation software and it seems to be very hard to create it. My best wishes.

@all, in a few days I will receive a second navigation unit and I will sacrifice it for connecting to the internal hidden USB and fully dump the eprom.
    My best wishes to myself.

Maybe you should wait for me to create that patched boot.bin, which would dump regions without sacrifices? I would take no more than a week probably.

No problem kunix, next week I will have two units, but both USA. So I will use your patch in an european bike of a fiend of mine.
I will open the second unit to find and use the hidden USB. I hope this port will be usefull.

That firmware linked in the first post does have a normal USB handler procedure inside. But this doesn't imply USB would work, of course.
So how are you going to use that hidden USB? Even if you would be able to connect and use Garmin USB protocol, that firmware doesn't seem to support command 0x60 which dumps regions.
And if you're not going to use Garmin USB protocol, then what are your plans? Are you trying to reach JTAG?
