No put the CF card in the bike if the map is unlocked it should load . If it doesn't load check and make sure the gmapsupp is in the Garmin folder on the CF card.

If you already have the mapset in Mapsource I would use Jetmouse to generate an unlock code for the bike. Then you unlock the maps in mapsource for the bike.
Once you have done that you can transfer the unlocked maps, gmapsupp.img, directly to your CF card with mapsource . No need for any other steps, the maps will already be unlocked.

I installed the newly configured CF card in the bike and it shows 2015.30 maps installed. Did some checking with POI's as I read somewhere there is an issue with that function. I wasn't able to make work POI 'find'. The keyboard is 'grayed' out, only had the left and right arrow keys available. Other functions such as find near worked bringing up places around me and I was able select them to route to.

Do you have the same issue?

So it seems that I'm 99% there with the upgrade.

Glad to hear you got it working. You will not get the POI to work with updated maps that are not purchase from Garmin for the 2006 -2008 Goldwing. For me a small price to pay to have current maps.

Where do I get the Mapsource file so that I can unlock the image with the code I got with jet?

    @Bistabuster
Your question isn't totally clear. Do you want to unlock a MapSource Data file [aka PC Install/.gmap folder] for use in patched BaseCamp/MapInstall to make a map image file, or do you want to unlock an image file [gmapsupp.img] to load to the unit's CF card?

Both. I've been out of touch for a while. What I wanted to try was to unlock the 2015.40 map with what I now found out is called Basecamp to the unit ID of the Goldwing Navi system. Then make an image of map that can be read from the Navi on the bike. I downloaded the locked map that has many files in it but none of them is recognized by Basecamp. Running Windows 7 and put the map files in users\name of computer\appdata\roaming\garmin\basecamp after some reading.

Can this be done manually? I'd like to try this to see if tying the map to my unit's ID will solve the greyed out POI search.

    This is correct placement:

    1. Depending on your OS you can simply put the gmap folder in the correct place manually so that it can be used by BaseCamp/MapInstall:
      Windows XP - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\GARMIN\Maps
Windows Vista to 10 - C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps [including for all versions of Win7&8]
      MAC - /Library/Application Support/Garmin/Maps/
(Or you can install it automatically using a full MapSource Data version [PC Install].)

    2. Ensure you're using a patched BaseCamp & Mapinstall: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

    3. Generate a JetMouse unlock code to unlock the gmap for your UID and send the image file to your unit's CF card.

The bad news is it's reportedly been done before many times and it doesn't fix the greyed-out search. So far, only the official map supplied by Garmin will allow search by POI as far as is known.

Can anybody please give me a download link for firmware v2.30 ? (I searched for a couple of hours and could not find any).
I need it for a 2009 US-version with SD card.
At present I have changed to Open Maps since there are no legal Europe maps available from Garmin. They are not interested, and even appear to accept that there are illegal versions from Russia on the market.
Alternatively: Can anybody provide me with info how to change language (e.g. from US-English to German) ?
Or where I can obtain a firmware package for that. I am quite willing to pay for that.
    Thanks.

Read this thread from the last couple of years, kunix succeeded in making that possible for Italian and i think other EU voices.

PS: I moved your post here shato, welcome to GPSPower.
