Jinxxxxx, ok, you've piqued my interest. How do you determine the key for the nav board?

Thanks for your involvement Ron. I wouldn't say you've shut the project down at all, and even if you'd been prepared to try combining maps on your sole OEM card [the truly definitive test] i'd have tried to talk you out of it. BTW, the unlock code useful for older sub-FID 2200 maps is generated by [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Happy and safe cruzin' mate.

If anyone else can help with this [probable fool's] errand i'm on, please put up your virtual hand. To save you reading and filtering it out of recent posts, here's what i want tested:

    • Clone an OEM or genuine Garmin supplied CF card containing a non-NT map to another 2GB card. Check that the cloned card works normally in the bike including POI kb search as reported earlier by jinxxxxx.
    • Use MapInstall to generate a small image of just your local area from a recent NT City Navigator. Unlock it with gimgunlock.
    • Using GMAPTool, join both images to make a new gmapsupp.img to overwrite the one on the cloned card.
    • With the GW Navi off, insert the cloned card and start the bike. Wait for the map data to load.
    • If it loads normally, go to Menu>Info>Map Info, uncheck the OEM non-NT map leaving the small NT component selected [the unit may take a little time to respond, so only press the check box once].
    • Check if POI keyboard search is enabled.

    @jinxxxxx
I'm aware the OEM mapset is locked to the unit as you definitively proved earlier when you changed your board. If it was locked to the card you would not have had to generate a new unlock code. Without going into detail, early maps below FID 2200 and older unit firmwares did not have the GMA complication and a JM generated unl code works, but you probably would not have got away with that if you did it with say CNNT 2011.10 which has an FID of 2211 and has to be unlocked with an unlocker like gimgunlock.exe. If you read the first part of this thread there was an explanation by the OP gcscott01 regarding the possibly way Garmin was 'copy protecting' the OEM cards by using a certain data block which would be overwritten if the NT cards have new data written to them which then causes the poi kb greyout. This is why i want to do the test with an older non-NT card which maybe doesn't have the protection which is present on the NT cards. They seem not to have it as writing the new unlock code as you did to your oem map did not disable poi search for you when you changed your board.

I hope it now makes sense as to the way i want the test done i.e. using a copy of an oem non-NT card containing a map with FID below 2200. I agree that it's probably a wild goose chase, but not for the reason you've stated mate.

Neil this will be my last post for about awhile. I will be heading out on a month long road trip and wont have internet access. So please don't thing I have left the building.

If some one is willing to provide an oem NT mapset for the goldwing I would be glad to help this progress. I promise not to use it for anything other than testing to solve this problem, I'm already using the 2015.2 mapset. Please feel free to strip out the unlock code but from what Neil is saying it wont make a difference. I personally don't use the POI feature but do have an strong interest in solving this.

Neil one last thought . I don't think this was a planned lock out by Garmin. I think it is a bug that worked in Garmins favor. It seem like a lot of trouble just to lock out the POI. Locking out the address search would have been more effective in stopping people from copying and using the oem maps. Just a thought.

No worries, enjoy your trip and stay stay safe [that means as far away from the cagers as possible lol].

Your NA 2015.20: Is that a shortcut under 2GiB or the full mapset over 2GiB? If the latter, that means 4.70 reads up to the FAT32 limit of course .

It might be a bug, but i wonder why only GW Navi units are affected in that case. If gcscott01 is correct and it's got the old Atari type of block-write protection maybe it was just easier for them to stuff up the poi search than the address search or the entire mapping. I'm not a programmer so that's just uneducated rambling ......

As I said, the fact that you were able to add a new unl code to your OEM card and not lose poi search with the replacement board seems to show that the protection was not present on the non-NT cards. Therefore stripping out an existing code and replacing it shouldn't disable poi search either.

Just reply when you can Mate.

I'm back but I don't at this time see how I can be of any help to you Neil. If I can please let me know. For me this is a brain teaser only that would be fun to solve.

use the Jetmouse key generating program from this board. In your goldwing menu goto the info/system screen . It will display the firmware version, maps and the serial # of your nav board. Put the serial #in the Jetmouse key generator to generate your unlock key.

PS Had a great 10K mile trip. Almost didn't make it back due to a flash flood in the Mojave desert but that just made it more memorable.

I found a good copy of firmware 4.70 for my 2007 Goldwing. Maps map but POI searches do not work as expected. Too much to read but did a fix for this ever come about? I seem to doubt it. Anybody figure out why this is happening? Not too sure, at the time of this posting what was meant by the board programming blah, blah, blah!

By 'board programming' are you referring to this?:

If so, jinxxxxxx is saying to use the JM keygen available from this 'board' [aka 'forum']: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

What is it supposed to do? Fix the search feature or strictly unlock the map? Perhaps maybe unlock the map so that POI's work? If so, I'll check it out!

Nup, sorry. It will unlock maps with FID below 2200 but it won't fix the POI search problem in NT maps.
