    Thanks for your suggestions, I tried another cable - same message. I also tried other ports and one other cable.

    I can only see my GPS model using one port, when I use other ports Windows 7 tries to find drivers. (I installed garmin GPS drivers).

    :/

    Don't connect to your PC via a USB hub. Plug the USB cable directly into a port on the PC, either on the front panel or at the rear. I can also confirm that one cable or the other can make a big difference in the result!

    nuvi 2569 lmt-d
    1/ flashed device with cure firmware and device booted as mass storage
    2/ made backup of contents
    3/ RMPrepUSB: format nuvi
    4/ restore backup
    5/ flashing device with original firmware (based on the same gcd) fails
    [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

    What could be wrong? Flashing the cure firmware went fine.

    Usually that message means nuvi is not in preboot anymore or not good cable, or USB hub used.
    Keep on pressing and holding, rename the .rgn like Neil explains here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] using your nuvi HWID and firmware version obviously.

    the nuvi is in pre-boot mode (SYSTEM is on display), updater.exe does show the USB device (otherwise I wouldn't have been able to get the error screen)
    the rgn file is named: 175801000850.rgn, the hardware id of the device is 1758
    I'm doing exactly the same as for loading the cure firmware, same usb port, same cable.

    @II00I0I0
    Preboot is frustratingly short in some devices and bricked ones with Cure onboard can be flaky and stubborn. Have the original rgn pre-loaded to Updater.exe and leave the GUI visible with the radio button selected for 'USB Device' BEFORE you even put the device into preboot, also have a suitable USB cable already plugged into a REAR port of your PC directly [no hub]. Then go to preboot like this: Have the device fully OFF [not in standby, you may have to force it off by holding the power button down to be sure], put in preboot by holding the screen top LH corner firmly with your thumb THEN plug the USB cable into it while watching the window to the right of 'USB Device' on Updater.exe's GUI. IMMEDIATELY you see the device details populated in the window hit 'OK' on the GUI or press your KB's enter key. Keep firm and steady hold of the screen until 'Software Loading' appears or just hold until finished. Before the flash is established if you let the pressure off for an instant it will release preboot. If the flash fails, keep trying over and over. Try with different cable, different port, different PC, different Windows OS XP or later. Be persistent!

    @Neil
    this is exactly how I perform the preboot connection, except that I have to press above the 'GA' of the Garmin logo.
    As soon as updater.exe, in which the USB radiobutton is already selected, shows the device, I press 'OK' and keep pressing the LCD.
    I loaded the cure fw the same way.
    PS: in the mean time I have the same problem with a nuLink 2340, the cure is loaded and works, formatting and restore completed, but now I can't load the original fw
    I'll try a winxp pc (now using win10)
