I've never seen an example of your BMW version of 3490. Certainly 3960/3790 Beemer units had a custom cradle which had a wiring harness to connect it to the car's speaker system and perform other functions too. This will be the case if your 3490 version also has that different cradle as catymag has warned above and as i mentioned here:

Before you proceed further, you really should determine what you wish to achieve, i.e. if it has a standard cradle and the PCB P/N is 105-01652-00 then you can probably do a straight conversion to 3490 provided you also change the logo [probably]. I say probably, because if your unit has a Splash number other than D3500-00 in Inventory there could be problems if you don't re-flash rgn16 to the usual 3490 logo. In fact even flashing the logo by itself without changing the fw [if it's different] may potentially also cause problems. You can check the logo Splash version in the same hidden menu showing the PCB P/N, on the Version Information page press 'Start Test' then 'More'. At the top of that screen you can confirm that your HWID is 1338 if you haven't already checked it in GarminDevice.xml as suggested by Caty. The numbers following Boot BLK/X-Loader/System will show as 'BXXXX-00' where XXXX is it's HWID.

If it indeed doesn't have a custom cradle but has different hwid to the usual 1376, and you are experienced in firmware modding and further you're confident to proceed without anyone posting to confirm their experience with cross-flashing this unit, my recommendation would be to initially make a hybrid fw from the unit's fw boot.bin and use fw1_resources.bin and fw_all.bin from the standard US/EU fw maintaining the unit's present hwid. If you don't understand any of that then don't do it without asking further.

If you simply want to enable features such as ASR and keep it as a BMW nuvi, then you should proceed as i suggested previously and just attempt to enable features by modding rgn140.

If you need further specific help with either method, post again and we will move these posts to a new or existing thread because either method's OT in here which is for converting 37x0 to 34x0.

Nuvi 34xx still has some support, while 37xx was dropped by Garmin long ago with many bugs remaining.

37x0 is a 2011 device and came before 34x0 which is 2012 but was based on 37x0 hardware. Once you convert there are also additional features which can be enabled by modding rgn140 which isn't available to 37xx. See also [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

Not without serious manipulation and it would be quite pointless other than for 'cosmetic' reasons anyway. The unit functions as a 3490, has it's HWID, uses it's firmware and files and is a 3490 for all real intents and purposes. Garmin Express, MapUpdater and WebUpdater will treat it as a 3490 based on it's HWID for fw and associated files and it's Unit ID for mapping and associated files [ASR, SID etc] and any Lifetime map subscription is unaffected accordingly. When a nuvi 2460 is fully converted to dezl 560 it identifies as 'dezl 2460', a nuvi 2x5W converted to nuvi 465 identifies as nuvi 465 however. These model name aberrations mean nothing to the day to day running of the units however.

I don't fully understand what you mean by:

"Garmin Express, MapUpdater and WebUpdater will treat it as a 3490 based on it's HWID for fw and associated files and it's Unit ID for mapping and associated files [ASR, SID etc]"

All these applications still see it as a 3790

Doesn't matter what model number they 'see' it as. They will treat it as a 3490 because of it's HWID [Hardware Identification Number] which is now 1376 not 1100 as before. For the OEM mapping data, the factor is the UID which doesn't change. The model name/number itself is quite immaterial. Even if they see it as a 3790 they will still give it the files suitable for a 3490.
