    Great work George,
Firstly, what did you flash with updater.exe? Was it the full 3xx0 fw or a cure fw? Don't worry about the missing audio files or logo yet, let's just take a step at a time. On the About page, what Software Version is showing?

It might be AM in the land of Ol' Glory, but it's late PM downunder. I'm gonna be catching some z's soon but if i don't reply there are plenty of others here more skilled than me: i.e. Loly, Angelo, dasil et al.

BTW, I've not heard of anyone having a problem with the sd card method previously. I've only used it relatively recently but compared to the old methods it's like falling off a log. If you want to stick to the updater.exe/rgn method that's fine, but i can't help thinking that there must have been something wrong with your files when you tried to do the sd method or the process was interrupted somehow.

Dear Rog [aka Speedy Gonzales], NP. I undeleted one of them... we're both toooo efficient ... LOL!

Note by MOD: sorry,Neil... I tried to undelete post but not works (sob!!) ....now works

    My version showing is7.90
I flashed it with the downloaded 37XX to 34XX file I downloaded from Garmin originally.
I have the Voice talking again on route.

I learned something in the process this morning. I did a webupdate and it showed that the English and Voice Jill was missing. I downloaded them and fired up the nuvi. That brought back the voice on the travel route. I then went and looked at the file directory. It showed a new "Voice" folder with the two files inside that I had downloaded with the webupdate procedure. I deleted that new folder and removed the "V" from in front of the original "Voice" folder and the voice reads the route back just fine.

That made me think about having the web updater restore the Voice recognition files. So, I renamed the "ASR" file and went and did the webupdate again. Unfortunately, there was not any choices in the selections to do a voice recognition update.

So the questions is, what do I need to rename to get the Voice Recognition Icon in the "Apps Menu" to appear. As there is no way, from the Apps menu to initiate the voice command changes, I think that is probably all that I need to get Voice Recognition back.

I am going to again flash the 34 start up logo screen, that should also solve that situation.

Any more suggestions on the Voice recognition situation?

    George

I see you didn't have Voice Command showing [between Audio Version and Text Version] on About screen. That could be explained by a missing *.srd file corresponding to the Audio version selected, e.g. Jack or Jill selected as voice, but no en_US.srd file in ADR. But it doesn't explain the missing Icon in Apps. But if ASR wasn't checked when 140.bin was modded for the sd flashing, or if the process didn't finish, both the missing Voice Command entry in About and the missing Icon make sense. If you're not sure what i'm talking it doesn't matter at the moment.

Once you've flashed the logo, we'll tackle the ASR problem. First thing then is to check your region 140. Let us know when you have the splash screen back. I'm off to bed.

Maybe you should flash back to 3790 to see if the voice command works when the Nuvi is a 3790.
This is purely a diagnostic process.
Maybe something will come to light !

Two days ago I converted a nuvi 3790 to 3490 as well and managed to enable all features that has the original 3490 firmware What I've done:

    1. Before attempting any flash, I've cleared User Data and Non Volume data. Then set the device to connect as a Mass Storage device to the PC.
    2. Using the RNG Tool I've made a RGN file to flash with Updater.exe. Using the method with the finger on top-left corner of the screen, I put the device in pre-boot mode and still holding the finger I've flashed the device.
    3. Then rebooted the device, it started a little bit slower and without logo. Of course many features like Video player, 3D terrain and 3D buildings, etc. were missing at the first boot. Then cleared Non Volume data again and switched the device off.
    4. In order to enable all features of the software, I prepared SD card with the files from the bottom of the first post and insert it in the nuvi. Then switched the device on without holding any finger anywhere on screen and waited the files to be flashed. Then switched the device off and removed the SD card. Rebooted the device, just in case to everything was right.
    5. Plugged the device to the PC and started Garmin Express (does the same job as WebUpdater). Downloaded missing voices, themes, dashboards, keyboards, speech recognition data (.srd files in ASR folder, this is the Voice Command), etc. After that I uploaded fresh maps, 3D buildings, POIs, etc.
    6. And that's it. Everything is working as it should. I even have made a test in real condition to see how was the accuracy compared to a brand new 3590LMT. The software shows 7-15 meters on the converted 3790, but this is not noticeable in real conditions for me.

To get Speech Recognition Data files via webupdater, you can try to delete ASR folder and check for updates again.

You followed with care post 1 instructions, I hope you did NV backup too (just in case) . Updates can corrupt NV sometimes, if you have it you can restore your device as new. Do it.

No, I didn't back up the Non Volume data. Can I back it up now, after the transformation?

Thanks for the link, already found the thread. Backed up by using HWID 1376, as this is the new HWID of the nuvi after transformation, right? HWID of original 3790 is 1101, right?
