Thanks for replies. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but this what I get in the update.log:

nüvi blade Series Software Version 4.50, UID: xxxxx, HWID: xxxxx
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Parsing "rrgn,41,1:/41_backup.bin"
    Success
    Parsing "reboot "
    Error: invalid command 'reboot '
    Error

However, I still get the 41_backup.bin file, which is about 6 MB so I assume I have a proper backup.

You appear to have a space behind the 'reboot' command. i.e. like this without the quotes:
    "rrgn,41,1:/41_backup.bin
    reboot "
Remove it and retry the backup.

Aha! That was the problem. I had a space after "reboot". Thanks Neil and everyone else for the help.

When I tried it again without the space, the green bar only appears briefly and the device reboots as expected. Thanks again.

@Catmag: off topic but an update.

Garmin will exchange for a new nuvi 3450 (not refurnished). My question to you is, once i get a new device and I will do a full SD back up [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. In the future if something mess up to my device, will the SD backup bring it to when I first got the device?

Where can I actually get the firmware of nuvi 3450? I know there's a firmware in here but that is for 34xx and i scare if i use that, it will show all those extra feature again. Can I extract from Nuvi 3450 or how?

NV backup will restore NV only.
You have to make also nuvi files backup:Enable hidden files in Windows and copy full content of nuvi to your pc, .System folder included.
If you have those 2 backups , you can restore it at 99% of nuvi failures.
    To Update go here:
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
    and follow this
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Source gives you the file link, download, delete old one in Nuvi ,copy the new one in Garmin folder in int memory or sd and restart Nuvi. Dont touch it till it wont restart itself and be sure to have your battery full charged before updating

Hello, have 3790 flashed to 3490. Worked great up to firmware 7.10 without any problem - now flashed with version 7.10 and the device is unusable - restarts every time I try to navigate to some saved POI. Also map screen becomes gray all the time - no map is shown. When using the MP3 player also reboots itself - very unstable.
    Anyone experiences the same ?
How to go back to firmware 6.80 or the deleted 7.00 which worked fine on my device ?
    thanks

    I too had this problem...

Did you try to use firmware 7.x? or maybe even 6.x? I had 2 identical 3760's and the first one I did, I flashed initially using 34xx FW 4.80. Then copied the .xml files to the \Garmin and after a reboot, all the features were enabled and the xml files disappeared.

Then I tried it on my second one but went straight for 7.1 when it was available. After I had flashed it, and copied the xml files, none of the features were enabled and all the xml files were still in the \Garmin folder. So I have a feeling it has something to do with the newer firmware.

I then used the SD card method to enable the features but the only feature that didn't appear was the Video Player. So I reflashed my 3760 back to 37xx firmware, and redid the process again first starting with 34xx 4.80 firmware, then copying the xml files to \Garmin and then all the features were enabled and xml files no longer there. Then upgraded using WebUpdater to 7.10.
