    From garmindevice.xml
    -<Model>
    <PartNumber>006-B1376-00</PartNumber>
    <SoftwareVersion>360</SoftwareVersion>
    <Description>nüvi 3790</Description>

Thanks and sorry for my confusion.

Webupdater still 'sees' my device as a 3790 (refer Description) but 'treats' my device as a 34xx. (refer PartNumber).

    So should be ok?

Webupdater sees your device as 3490 and treats as 3490. 3790 it's just description. Put "monkey" instead of "3790" in garmindevice.xml , and Webupdater will see it as "Monkey".

The other way is going into Inventory page.
You will see your real hwid inside.

for garmindevice.xml , I can pathch firmware to make a fake hwid to show.

Sure, but fringe didn't patch the firmware. So in his case (and in 99% of other cases) my statement is right.
Not many people are patching firmware.

    Maybe not.
I think many people can do patch firmware.
For example... US boot 1101 + fw_all sgmy 1288 (so the real hwid is 1101)

Then someone miss something as pic.

What is hwid from garmindevice.xml ? 1288 ? (and the real hwid is 1101)

Has anyone with LifeTime Map subscription tried to update the map on a flashed 3790 to 3490 device: the program ignores the process OR everything is OK and the program downloads the 3490 files...

Please if someone tried it to share some experience...

Here is a question about the level of map details shown.

The detail level on a 3790 is higher than on a 3490.

If you "convert" a 3790 into a 3490, does the detail level become less too, or does it remain at the same level as the 3790 had been before the conversion ?

Program downloads files necessary for 3490.

After conversion device becomes 3490. So it functions like 3490.
