I completely re flashed to the 3490 version, exact same results as before. Have no ASR Icon in Apps.
I installed the downloaded en_US file and updated from the web. Nothing new to be added.
    Boy, I am really lost.

Have you made hard reset after flashing firmware ?
I'm a bit lost too, wondering what happened, if your nuvi didn't loose model n. as shown above not easy to understand what's going on in your nuvi.
You don't have Voice Command in About , see mine

I don't know what "Hard Reset" is!

Is there somewhere I could send my nuvi to have it come back working as a 3490?

Have you read starting post? How have you converted nuvi? Which procedure?
Must clear Non Vol (hard reset) after every flashing and follow the procedure with care or you can really brick your nuvi.
I guess you didn't backup NV too.

Disaster strikes! Used process to flash back to 3790 operation. After initial start up screen went blank. Waited about 20 minutes nothing happened. Now cannot connect to computer USB port, can hold on/off switch and looks like screen turns off. Hit on or hook to USB port and screen lights dimly in background.

Can't seem to get any further!

Is there any hope or is this now a brick?

    George
