Indeed it is a milestone thread Caty and far from dead. I think the only reason not much has been posted here for while is because the thread so comprehensively covers various uses of update.txt commands. pietu made the point that 90% of users wouldn't understand this thread but i think a 'normal' user can and will if they read it properly even without any additional posting of help from others. I knew nothing of this method [of course] when this thread started but following it taught me the basics no problem, so i moved from the 90% to the 10% also np [assuming pietu's figure is correct ]. My only confusion was over 'if_error' command and kunix enlightened me on that, i.e. it's not present in older unit fw, otherwise i wouldn't have had to ask anything [and i'm as dumb as dogs**t when it comes to this kind of stuff].

Like adrianm I have a couple of older units which will charge but not read or write over usb, even after reflowing. They would have been stripped for parts and the boards binned if it wasn't for Kanopus starting this thread [my eternal thanks]. Everything in their file systems can be dumped back to sd to check what's there already by copying region 48 [with most units] and then opening the .bin file with PowerISO or similar, not sure that will work with 2x0 series though as in some early units certain regions can be written to but won't copy. Maybe altering commands in firmware would allow that to happen in stubborn units but that's a job for the likes of Loly, Kanopux, kunix, pietu, Giomen et al if they want to try it because that does seem a logical progression of this thread, as is also maybe to try using Kunix's modded boot [[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]] as ldr.bin in SD, or flashing his cure fw for possible curing of one of these usb damaged units should one brick [experiments on a healthy unit intentionally bricked first of course], i mean where ldr.bin loads too late to use Alex's 2.bin method as with 2x0. Maybe that's total crap, i dunno. Just trying to gain some more attention from the experts to continue or reignite interest ....

I have many older units [SP510, nuvi 3x0, 6x0, 2x0, 7xx, 1xxx] to play with if any of you NSEs want to try that stuff but don't have an example of the particular unit to hand.

I think i do not basic user, but i do not even understand what is 2.bin (maybe my english) but when caty say what it mean then i understand whole method.

well maybe simply english is always better that some technical words and abbreviations or nicknames, and also tools, there is anyone say even rgn tool i know it but how basic user can know

anyway my opinion is that, "basic user not use if you are not very sure what you do"

Thanks, pietu. I really meant comments on developing other uses by you NSEs as i detailed above. But it may well be valid what you've said and 'normal' users just don't understand particularly those with limited EN or knowledge of terms. Regardless of whether it's 90% or 1% of normal users who can't follow it is arbitrary anyway, there will always be someone who doesn't follow what's happening because of their level of expertise or ability to learn. I had virtually no experience when i started to read and follow this thread over 3 years ago in Dec '11 [joined in Aug '11 - knew absolutely nothing, still knew practically nothing in that Dec, you see?]. At your much higher level of knowledge you've got your head around it in a few hours even with little English [by your own assessment ].

    So, comments about further uses?

I'm trying to make a backup of some regions of the nuvi 2795TV (HWID 1711), but traditional commands from the SD card not being recognized, despite appear in ldr.bin.
Does anyone have any idea what can be?

The firmware 2795TV belongs to 2xx5 series, seems.. Structure and files are the same of the series, the exception of a few extra related to TV. For those who doubt, just check the firmware and compare...

Strange you're getting that message, if 41 was protected from copying you'd get this of course:
    Parsing "rrgn,41,1:/41.bin"
    Error

41 isn't protected in 'normal' 2xx5 and they definitely copy to '1', not '2' as the 2013 devices do.

All 3 commands rrgn/ergn/xrgn are there in fw so i can't understand why you get "Error: invalid command 'rrgn' ".

On another note Angelo, do you happen to still have V2.30 fw to help this guy out?: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

Neil, the same error occurs with respect to any region. The post was just an example. Probably or the commands have been disabled, although contained in the standard fw, or included some small alteration in the synthesis, as a space or new parameter. But how not to give speculate and shooting in the dark, let's wait for the analysis of gurus

In relation to the other post, unfortunately, I not have the fw, even because the 2795 is not mine, and must stay with me for a very short time.

angelozip, Neil, It looks like rrgn command is disabled in this boot.bin, but it's enabled in the bootloader.
I've never seen this before, but the bootloader is capable of running update.txt script, though, the exact conditions of doing this are hard to deduce.
After disassembling and comparing the bootloader and the boot.bin a bit I can speculate that it's executed during the "normal" operation cycle of the bootloader.
The question is, what we consider "normal"? Quickly load fw_all.bin and execute it? Or enter pre-boot mode, initialize USB and wait for USB commands?
In order to run update.txt via bootloader I suggest doing the following:
    Code:

If the above doesn't help, try entering pre-boot mode in step 3.

    Kunix
    , you are THE MAN!!

    Works fine, wonder!! (without pre-boot)
Now I can play with this firmware

Later I will make some observations here. Before I will make full dump of fw.
