Hi,
There is already a GUPDATE.GCD file into Nuvi .System folder.
I find that very strange, because .GCD file put into Garmin folder on Montana disappears after the update.
So do I have to delete this .GCD file before doing anything ?
Most nuvi models including 2xx5 series can be updated with a GCD file that way. In fact you can also do it a few other ways:
1. Connect the unit to PC, drag nuvi24x5and25x5_GCDFile__810.GCD onto the WebUpdater icon on your desktop and it will load the file as gupdate.gcd in .System.
2. Put gupdate.gcd in a folder named Garmin in the root of a microSD, insert in nuvi then boot it but first remove any gcd file from the unit if present.
3. Make a file xxxx01000zzz.rgn from the gcd file using RGNTool [where xxxx is your HWID and zzz is the firmware version], drag it onto updater.exe and flash it in preboot [also requires removal of gupdate.gcd from unit if present prior to flashing though or it may reflash].
For a unit which cannot be flashed easily by usb, or the internal file system cannot be accessed by usb because of a loose or otherwise faulty usb socket for instance, there is also a method using SD using boot.bin as ldr.bin and commands in update.txt to both delete an existing gupdate.gcd and load a new one to .System. Those familiar only with older nuvis which can flash gupdate.gcd from the Garmin folder may find that Montana 'disappearing GCD file' strange also. Horses for courses i guess .
Naturally, if you simply use 'copy & paste' for the new file or load it by dragging it onto WebUpdater the new file will overwrite the old gupdate.gcd if it's present. Remove an old file prior to flashing in preboot or via sd or the old file can be reflashed.
For those who don't like messing around with their units in this way, of course the fw an be upgraded in a 'hands-off-way' quite simply from the Garmin servers via WebUpdater or GarminExpress or directly thru mygarmin.com>MyDashboard:

My Nuvi 2545 is on 4.4 firmware !
Or the former firmware is on 8.10 !
Is there a risk upgrading from 4.4 to 8.10 given that there has been at least ten intermediate firmwares since ? Or do I have to upgrade progressively ?
There Should be No Problem, Garmin upgrades do not require you to install missed updates.
In future try to update more regularly. Just make sure you have a 100% Full Battery

I tried to put him 16Gb card and it works perfectly, but it's pointless having built 8Gb. I hope to continue in 2014 to run good updates to our Garmin.

Hi,
Has anybody upgraded a Nüvi 2545 to last firmware 8.20 ?
In that case, is Garmin new protection active ? In other words can CN Europe 2015-10 NTU be displayed or not ?
If I upgrade to 8.20, can I easily downgrade back Nüvi 2545 (as I can easily do with Montana) ?
