    Default Nuvi 1350 Won't boot

I've got a Nuvi 1350 that failed to complete a map update and has been unusable ever since. The unit will boot to the Garmin screen and hangs there indefinitely.

I am able to flash different firmware versions and firmware cures using the Updater.exe. Each time I do so, the Updater shows the Garmin going through its paces and making the changes. When I reflash different firmware, the Updater shows that the last firmware is, in fact, on the device. The device reboots numerous times, the Updater shows things like "Erasing" and "Updating" etc. I've commented out all the file extensions. Ugh.

But I can never get the device to boot far enough to recognize the USB connection via a Mass Storage device. If I could, I'd be able to clean out whatever is wrong on the drive. Nothing I do will allow Mass Storage -- I think that's what is really needed to get things working.

For the cure files I've used, I've tried ones by ddabcd277 and I've made my own. I've even run the xsc file recommended to force USB mode. No dice. Don't know what else I can do.

NOTE: I am using Windows 7 64-bit. I've seen several mentions that this OS won't work with Updater.exe. I'm here to tell you that's flat wrong. I plug the GPS in, turn the device on, hold the upper left-hand corner of the screen, fire up Updater.exe, and everything is recognized and can the process goes flawlessly. I am unable to restore the device well enough that the computer recognizes the USB drive -- I CAN CONFIRM, though, that I have other working Garmins that are seen via USB w/o issue.

    Help would be appreciated. Thanks!

UPDATE: I've tried using a Windows XP system and have seen the same results.

Changing a few strings in the firmwares unfortunately not always helpful for freezing (or rebooting)...many time it is...but maybe you are not fortunate. Here what my three suggestions from now on are:

    1. Take an SD card and create an empty folder x:/Garmin in it. Put the SD card and see what is happening. Maybe device will boot.

    2. Try creating cure FW as described here:
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

but use older version of the FW. Let say 2.70.

    3. If the upper two didn't help maybe I could help but you should contact me via skype. But first try the first two suggestion

I will try the above suggestions and let you know how it turns out. Once complete, if I need to contact you via Skype, what time(s) are best? I'm on the East Coast of the US.

You're on the continent then, yes?

I've tried to make a few different cures using the 270 firmware but the system goes black after the initial erasing process. Will not wake up -- I need to remove it from the USB port and wait a few mins before it is willing to turn back on again. I can flash later firmwares without issue. Thoughts?
