Hi, I updated my (brother's, actually) nuvi 250 using webupdater and it updated to this:
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
(from 7.50). So I guess 2x5 fw is fully compatible and fully replaces older 2xx fw.

There are different versions of 2x0, some but not all use the same hardware and firmware as 2x5.

WebUpdater do not read sticker on device It is read big red number with label HWID (internal ID of hardware). You can see it in the first post.

    HWID 0834
It is for classic (old) Nuvi 250.

You have HWID 0851. But your nuvi 250 it is not the nuvi 250 and is not the nuvi 255. It is transition model. It is more model 255 then model 250, but do not have some not very important features likes DEM base map and photo navigation in Nuvi 255.

It is very kind from Garmin to remember about this very old devices. 256Mb or 512Mb on board in most of its - it is very serious reason for increase usable memory on SD in twice from 4Gb. We have a lot of these devices in the ranks of our Garmins. They remind me of the lost world of real things. In its time this unpretentious device was cost like Nuvi 3590 LMT now! But they is still work and they is really from hard crude iron. Sorry...

And add just link for other ID - ID0834

Thanks for the info, didn't know about that (that is, I knew about hw versions and how they don't "mix", just not about being a transition model).
