Ops...Sorry. No, no difference. You can check in a hex editor if you wish. No problem at all. Just yesterday I was hurrying and forgot to remove the useless 0xff bytes at the end of the main FW before merging it with boot.bin. I just have a full dump of the region and...It doesn't matter. I should pay more attention. Thank for providing the files. I have reploaded them in the OP. Again Noeman is the only place.

Can you write what is the difference between 3.20, 3.30, 3.40? Something significant? No one can answer me that question.

    @ddabcd277
Other than the useless bytes at the end of the new 069401000340_boot320.rgn, there are also two other address lines that have some different hex text from the old 069401000340_boot320.rgn.

See the Bold Red values from lines 3:6DF0h & 3:6E00h as shown below:

    069401000340_boot320 (OLD).rgn
    3:6DF0h: FF FF 5A A5 FF FF FF FF 0A 5B 2F 00 52 0E 00 00
    3:6E00h: 00 00 00 00 5B 2F 00 02 00 00 EA 1A 5A 31 0C B6

    069401000340_boot320 (NEW).rgn
    3:6DF0h: FF FF 5A A5 FF FF FF FF 0A 00 34 00 52 0E 00 00
    3:6E00h: 00 00 00 00 00 34 00 02 00 00 EA 1A 5A 31 0C B6

Any idea why the difference in the old vs. new .rgn?

I never tried FW 3.30, but see no obvious difference going from FW 3.20>3.40 OLD.
I'll do some screenshots of the menus of FW FW 3.20 & 3.40 OLD, and if I see any changes I'll post them tomorrow.

Complain to Turbo. I don't know what is the full logick of RGN tool when merging boot loader and main FW and what are the two bytes between them. (Maybe they show the size of the uploaded data?)

Here you have the raw dump. Do what you wish and check the result yourself with RGN tool.

After the last bytes of 0x0C region (FF FF 5A A5 FF FF FF FF, no checksum byte, but no one cares), the next region header follows immediately. Those bytes indicate that the next region is 0x0E.
    0A 5B 2F 00 = 0x002F5B0A = <0x0E region size> + 0x0A
    00 5B 2F 00 = 0x002F5B00 = <0x0E region size>

    thank you very much.
I downloaded 3.30 and 3.40 but programs always tell me "There´s no update avalable for your product". My eTrex Vista HCx is on 3.20.

edit: found it: firmware 3.30 and 3.40 is not for Vista HCx, it`s only for Vista Cx

Use version 3.20! You nothing to find and nothing to lose with 3.30 or 3.40. This versions is usually SW for supporting manufacture. By another world it have minor change for support a new device with new circuit design. If you have the "old" Sw so you have "old" circuit design. The best the enemy of good...

I just notice that someone has touched my first post. I am not this one. Now I understand the previous comment. The FW 3.40 posted is for Vista CX, which is wrong! The ones I have posted initially were a dumps from HCX. This FWs are still not made available by Garmin. Same as the once for GPSMAP 60csx etc. ver 4.10 and 4.20. Garmin sometimes has this tradition. True no one has posted any information what is the diffeence between the latest official 3.20 and these once.

BTW they are only available at Noeman
