Newbie question - how to update the firmware on a nuvi 205W ?

I checked the chip type on my nuvi, which is B0827-00, and current firmware version, which is 2.50. Have also downloaded the nuvi2x5W_GCD_760.gcd file from the first post in this tread.

What are the steps needed to actually install or flash the new firmware?

    Thanks in advance.

For testing purposes, I'm looking for FW 5.00 for HWID 0827 (missing in post #1). Could anyone please provide? Thanks.

    Here you are!

    Spoiler: HWID 0827 SW VER.500

BUT REMEMBER!!! In most of case downgrading of 205 series devices from version above 5.10 will kill device without any recovery possibility! Only physical low level programming of internal memory chip give certain chance to success

P.S. But I know that you want compare this version with old true original 250W SW - you can see it is absolutely different device and it have not synchronized SW.

I downgraded my nüvi 255W from FW 7.60 to 5.00 without any problem.

Reason I needed FW 5.00 is that I wanted to establish in which FW version the support for map files larger than 2 GB was added. I can now confirm that this happened as of FW 5.10 dated 8 June 2009 (FW 5.00 does not yet support maps > 2 GB).

This support not mentioned anywhere in the change log. I wonder why, since the change log of many other models does mention it, for instance nüvi 5xx with FW 3.40, or nüvi 8xx with FW 4.70, or zumo 4xx / 5xx with FW 4.90 plus a collection of older handheld outdoor models. An important enhancement like the support of file sizes > 2 GB belongs in the change log, also of the nüvi 2x5 and 2x5W...

I do not remember details but about 4.60-5.10 SW Garmin made modification for new PCB and no downgrade was available. You are happy! It is good.
