this is the procedure, must be quite the same in Zumo

Within that folder you unzipped the firmware and you will see 2 files. (With an extension. RGN, the other is the program exe )

Drag the RGN up the exe. (This should open the program). At this point select USB "device." (Do not plug the GPS into your computer)

    Place the GPS pre-boot mode:
    - Turn on the GPS and after put your finger on the battery icon to enter the diagnostic mode. Then click Exit.
    - When you restart the gps, put your finger on the top left corner. (And on the same corner, almost off-screen)
    - Once the word appears written "system " in green above the logo of Garmin, connect the USB cable to your computer. Your device should appear in the list of Devices. (Connect system disappear before the word)
    - Once listed, a fast take on program OK.

After giving the OK on the Updater, make him wait until the end, when it will reset itself and give the message of success in the program.

    Hi Catymag,

Thanks a lot for the reply.
I went into the diagonostic mode, did exit and the gps reboots. However, I cant get the screen you reffered to despite I keeping the finger on the topleft of the unit screen. I did try this a few times.

I am not sure, if I am doing anything wrong?
    Please help.

    Regards,
    Prem

    @ vu2pmc

Hope I understand the problem correct. So your zumo is working without a problem. You can enter Street, Adress etc. navigate with it but do not want to enter in USB mode when connected with USB cable to PC. Am I right? And this happen after you update to version 4.90? Before that no such problem. If so I don't think cure firmware is going to help. Of course you can try.

    Cheers,

Yes, u r absolutely correct. it works as a navigator perfectly. Just that it wont enter usb mode after the update to version 4.9
But I badly want to use for a variety of programs including mapsource. Hence usb mode is very essential.

Actually, catymag refers to a screen touch, which I tried, but with out any luck. Hence, I shall wait for his further advice.

I see. Hope catymag help you also. If you want try my simple two advices:

    1. Try connecting the device with USB cable while zumo is counting down. For example connect zumo with USB cable and after that disconnect it. Zumo should start counting down numbers to turn off. While counting down connect it with USB cable.

    2. If that won't help try to reflash firmware or flash older version or if you want to take the risk try the cure firmware I have provided link in my previous posts.

    Hope you succeed.

    Cheers,

    It's HER, I'm a woman
Have you set Setup->System->Interface to Garmin Spanner ?
If you set Setup->System->Interface to Garmin Spanner you will get prompted every time you plug into the PC whether you want to enter USB mode or not. You can't send files to the Garmin but you can use it as a GPS connected to a laptop and it does draw power from the USB cable.

hi Catymag, firstoff, apologies for mistaking you for a man.

This is a zumo 500 Unit and no option for using it as a gps reciever. I have read somewhere there once it goes into the diagonostic mode, if u plugged in the usb, cable, it will promopt u to install more usb drivers and then it works as a reciever.

In my case, it just takes power from the usb cable. unit works like a reciever. but if u took n route, then gps is missing. On the diagnostic mode, on the thrid line from the bottom, ( where it is written, usb device) it shows GCM20 ( as aganist no cable selected).
I am sure, the unit is not able to go into the usb mode.

Please advice me if u got any other option? Spanner option is not available for Zumo 500.

Thanks again for replying back. I live in india, and not many use gps out here. garmin support is not worth mention.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
    Regards

    some questions.
On mygarmin page , mydashboard can see your device? Can communicator plugin see it?
What do you see in START/SETTINGS/CONTROL PANEL /Device Manager ?
Have you tried to update drivers?
If your device manager doesnt detect it try this

Do you have your zumo previous device.xlm ? May be the new one is corrupt.

    Hi Catymag,

No luck with all what u have asked me to do. It wouldnt detect. However, while I was writing this email, my dashboard out of blue deteced my zumo, and I could actually see my drives. I took that chance and using webupdater, reinstalled the same version all over again. So, I unplugged it from usb, unit booted, worked fine as a navigator, and plugged it back to usb. Same status. wont go into mass storage mode.

Tried mhy dashboard this time no luck. So, not sure, what is going wrong. so perhaps, it might detect after a while.

Is there anything which u want to suggest, should I get into the mass stoarge mode again?

    Thanks for all your efforts
