Greetings! It's a great pleasure to be a part of this forum and I enjoy reading the abundance of information posted here. I downloaded a copy of Garmin XT Mobile 5.00.20w with the Jetmouse key generators. My question is this: do I need a previous version of GMXT to use this software? I have of course copied the voice and support files & program files to my Dell Axim PDA but but I don't have a Garmin unit to extract the SD id number from my SD card. I did however use a computer software utility to extract hopefully an accurate card i.d.# (which turned out to be an 8-digit number) read from the SD reader on my notebook computer. Thanks in advance for any helpful feedback.

I got through the problem above after installing another version of Garmin XT. The software is running smoothly now but for some reason I wasn't able to see my device I.D. number with version 5.00.20w and now I will have to focus on installing the maps but the basemap is fairly detailed and likely could direct most people to their destination, assuming they didn't live out in the boonies or in some hidden alley in the city.

    Hi,
SD id from Garmin is not the same one you get from PC.

Thanks for your reply but I had resolved the problem before your response. Also, the utility software that I used initially didn't get the i.d. from the computer, itself (nor was that the purpose of the utility). However, the program isn't searching home addresses but everything else works nicely and I am receiving 4 bar satellite reception in the house and 5 bars on the outside. Any suggestions for the address search problem? I am using a base map and a detailed map together but I suspect the search problem is related to the maps directly.

Thanks CATYMAG for your response. I could have provided a little more information regarding the problem. I get a message that my map is not a detailed map and a detailed map is required for the address search. However, the map (KOPIMI by KroFF North America) is a detailed map and it reads as a detailed map when it alternates from a zoom out map to a zoom in map (with close details). So both of the maps are being used. I have a 1 gig SD drive, so the image file was too big for my SD drive. However, I was only interested in extrracting my home state map from the big image file. So I used maptool to break the big image file into segments and then loaded the file into mapsource and highlighted the state map and transferred it to my gps. I later learned that the initial map file was supposely already unlocked. Is it necessary to use the XXXX.unl file with an unlocked image file? If so, what should I indicate in the unl file?

    Hi,
You made this way to complicated. You started with image file, converted it to Mapsource (and lost search function), then exported part of it from Mapsurce.
Yes, map should be unlocked if image was unlocked already, and you don't need unl file, but map generated this way could not be used for navigation (no search function), or map is not functional like yours.

    1. Download MapSource version from this post
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

    2. Install MapSource 6.15.11 following procedure from this post
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
(do not forget to overwrite with patched version)

    3. Unlock map in MapSource using keygen from this post
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
and Device ID from your device, and map wil be unlocked for your device only (no need for .unl file in your device)

    or

    a) Reverse convert map with this tool
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

    b) Unlock with Garmin unlocker from this post
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
and map will be unlocked for all devices (no need for .unl file in any device)

    4. Export from MapSource region you need

Map generated using this procedure will be fully functional and unlocked

    Default Software Changes

The previous map wasn't entirely non-functional. The simulation and navigational part of the software worked fine and I could even search and pull up cities in my state (but not specific addresses). However, the most recent map will search for addresses but I am not particularly impressed with the Garmin search engine. Overall, I like the program and will continue to use it. The program runs very smoothly on my Dell Axim. As for the installation, I just downloaded the detailed map file for my reigon (map included a number of states) and took the SD drive out of my Axim PDA and inserted the SD card into my notebook computer and copied the image file (less than 300 megabytes) to my SD drive and re-named the .unl file for the 2nd map in the Garmin directory so that the software wouldn't refer to it. Then I inserted the SD card back into my Axim and launched the software and now she is working like a charm. Thanks to both of you for all the advice & instructions. Great site & great moderators here!

I installed 5.00.20w to my friend's i900 (winmo 6.1). After some searchings to activate Internal GPS, it works very good. Thanks to CATYMAG, Midnight Blues and other moderators, you are great!
