Sad to see that Garmin has removed the option to use custom maps on my iPhone. I Guess it's because sadly many people illegally copy their maps. I as one of the many who buy original map products (North America version) are now stuck being not able to use legally obtained custom maps.
Because Garmin was the only big name in GPS that allowed custom maps I used them. Now they removed this option I have no reason to stick to Garmin; at least on my iPhone - the stand alone versions still allow the use of custom maps (for how long??).
I hope someone will soon find a usable way to add custom maps on the iPhone.

I think that if you do that you will not be able to navigate, only to see the map!! I tried this before and so far the only solution for me was to downgrade to 2.3

This procedure only works partially for me, at least on version 2.6.
I am able to see my custom basemap, search it and even find a route to the destination.
But it won't give me voice prompts nor recalculate route when needed.
Is it working 100% for you?

Not working at all for me also on 2.6, might be due to installing the unlocked non unicode version of 2014.30.
Will try the unicode version aswell, but it will waste space since I also need atleast one original map installed covering the same area.
On a 16 GB iPhone it's alot of wasted space, damn apple for not having microsd...

The worst part is that I own normal life time maps for full europe on normal GPS and wouldn't mind paying for more maps on the phone as well (I just need one more country, PL).
Well worst case scenario is to buy TomTom as well atleast they offer full Europe on the phone, but I prefer Garmin.

The Unicode version of the map did the trick =)
But as mentioned by others in this post it will not show up in the list and there can be some problems.
However the non unicode version works wit version 2.6 and to minimize the wasted space don't install the full western europe map on the original device,
install the one you use the most...
