    help Garmin opens then closes

This type of problem has been discussed in several places but its usually for all apps doing it.

I have a single Garmin app that tries to open for about 15 seconds or so and then closes.
I have tried to delete it then reinstall with same luck. I have tried other Garmin Apps with
    the same problem.

When I first installed the app it did sort of work. I got the authorization error message.
I deleted it and when I installed it again it started with the open for about 15 seconds then closes.

Did all the usual things like power down the iPhone by holding down sleep button and front button
until it re-boots. Springboard re-boot too. All no luck

I am wondering if deleting in the normal way by holding down the icon until it wiggles
is not uninstalling the program fully,

Any tips would be appreciated and to repeat, it is just any of the Garmin apps I have installed
either through Installous or funbox that have been giving me this problem

    Thanks
    Ken

I am assuming that you use garmin onboard. Which version that you use? But whatever it is, first try to edit the "hosts" file under \etc, and add following lines at the very bottom:

(note: it will only works if you have your iPhone jailbroken already because you will need to edit some of the file)

[hide]127.0.0.1 [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
    127.0.0.1 gold.garmin.com
    127.0.0.1 brown.garmin.com[/hide]

Install your garmin application with above modification and directly run it without respring/reboot your iPhone (and see if it works).

There are however, several version that have a non-functional (at least not fully functional) garmin-nav file so you have to:
[hide]- Find another garmin onboard with the same version that already been "edited" and copy the garmin-nav file under "var\mobile\Applications\[APP DIR]\garmin-nav.app\"
    - Copy it to your intended garmin application to use
    - Change the file permission and owner as follow:
    Ownership:
    Owner: mobile; Group: mobile

    Access Permissions:
    User: Read, Write, Execute
    Group: Read, Execute
    World: Read, Execute
    [/hide]

Just try that and see if it helps.

    Default Garmin open and close

I have tried everything that was just posted. The iPhone is jailbroken and I used iFile to edit the host and added the 127.xxx with [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] lines
I tried the onboard as well as a few others.

I have a second iPhone 8GB that works perfectly with the same garmin program.

I am wondering if another program is causing a conflict or when I installed it for the very first time, when I was
getting a not authorized message, could a file that does not get uninstalled be causing the problem?

I think I have either another program causing a conflict or something is not getting uninstalled completely.

Thanks for the replies and if anyone else has any ideas please keep them coming

Two iPhones have the same software programs?

    Write something more, some comparisons.

Default What details can I add that might help?

I have the "Onboard" version on my 8GB iPhone. My 16GB I originally had Garmin USA with maps.
That one when I first executed it I started getting the authorization message. After a few attempts
it started with the open then close problem. Using iFile I added the host info, along with going to each
map and changing it to mobile mobile and Read Execute, with USER being Read Write Execute.
I uninstalled and tried the Onboard with the same
open and close problem. I then installed the Onboard to my 8GB iphone and it worked.
I tried a few other Garmin versions all open and close after about 15 seconds.

When you say "Onboard" I assume you mean the version with NO maps?

I have since then installed other apps from both iTunes and Installous with no problems all working.
but still no luck with the Garmin.

Hmmm that was strange indeed. All I can think of is try to uninstall the application and reinstall it with the "hosts" file already been edited. Try this first and see how it goes.

    Default tried that too

This has me puzzled too. I tried the host modded and not and it still opens for about
15 seconds then closes. Either something is not getting completed deleted or another
program is causing a conflict with it.

Have you try my second suggestion @ post #2? I do have a couple of similar problem in the past (not too long ago) and my second suggestion works every single time.
