What version of the Garmin app are you running? Also--you may be able to get around the "authentication failure" message simply by making sure that you have an line entry in /etc/hosts that has something like this:

    127.0.0.1 gold.garmin.com

If the /etc/hosts file on your iPhone contains any other "garmin" line entries other than the one above--delete them...or if you don't feel comfortable deleting those lines, then simply put a # symbol at the beginning of the line, like so:

    # 111.111.111.111 silver.garmin.com

Make sure you don't inadvertently put any stray characters or line feed/carriage return characters in any of the lines in the /etc/hosts file or else the iOS may not be able to correctly read the entire file. Respring (or just to be really sure, reboot) your iPhone, then see if you still get the authentication failure message.

    Hi,
Im trying to make the app work on my iphone 4. Its the old usa version on os7. Could finally install the app, but Im not able to copy the maps with ifunbox.
Not sure why, ifunbox says there's no jailbreak, and it doesn't write the gmapsupp and gmapprom files.
In addition, is there any tutorial about the full installation?
    Cheers

Uhm, guys, I have managed to install Garmin StreetPilot USA 2.7 ipa and it works flawlessly allowing me to download any USA maps (lower 49 states etc.) as well as the junction file. All I had to do on my jailbroken iPhone was to install FirewallIP via Cydia and add a rule to block gold.garmin.com .

Believe it or not, it does not comlain about license, etc. but the first time you run would go directly to the download page and let you choose among the entire map or several zones.

It is all perfect for me, but I am presently residing in Canada so I am trying to install a Canada/North america map and this is where I am stuck and going nowhere. I did placed the maps at the usual places but it seems as the app is not using .. /.System/... but /Data/...

Placing an gmapprom.img and/or gmapsupp.img in the same folder as the default downloaded map lead me to nowhere. Placing the map in /Library/sdcard/Garmin/Map - nothing. Trying to put a map in /private/var/mobile/Applications/--NUMBERS&LETTERS--/garmin-nav.app/storage-usa/.System keeping the proper file naming and permissions also lead to nowhere so I am really stuck with USA Garmin that is useless for me now while living in Canada.

Could anyone who have had a better luck share their experience as I am trying to find the way to add the maps in plist files but did not find any where it is written. Otherwise I should lower the version to 2.0.19 or 2.0.20 and it would work but I would love to use the new app for several reasons.

    Anybody any thoughts to share?

    1) It works with Garmin v.2.0, v.2.1, v.2.2 and v.2.3.
    2) It does not work with Garmin v. 2.7-3.1
    3) I don't know what about v.2.4-v.2.6.
    4) If ad.1:
    Access Permissions for maps:
    User: Read, Write, Execute
    Group: Read, Execute
    World: Read, Execute

Sorry that I don't have an answer to your question, but that's good news about being able to use Garmin 2.7 on a JB iPhone and download (USA) maps without issue--what I am more interested in, as far as a working (JB) 2.7 is concerned is...is it possible to get traffic, trafficTrends, and/or Urban Guidance to work if enabled through "other" means? I have stayed on 2.2 all this time just for those very reasons--working traffic, trafficTrends, and Urban Guidance functionality.

tonytone, any free content on the garmin streetpilot 2.7 app can be downloaded and confirmed to be 100% working. It is just a strange map locations that have been placed after 2.2-2.3 of garmin and the maps are not residing in the same folders as before. What I am doing right now is to download the original maps of usa as well as the junction views with the 3d maps and see where they would be placed, so after that I will try to place my files in the same spot and start it from there after I fix the permissions and so on.

I have also found a 2.2-2.3 app for North america so will install that one too and will see where the maps will go so to preserve the original downloaded maps, jcv and 3d buildings and play with their locations on the garmin 2.7 us. I have a feeling that it would be a good game to play in order to have my garmin working with North America, however I am really disappointed that Garmin have decided not to put the postal code search in the cell phone apps (it is not there neither for iOS nor Android). Shame on you, Garmin, as without this most useful feature you are tomtom alike

OK, so for Garmin 2.7 usa app, the maps now are located in /private/var/mobile/Applications/**APP-NUMBERS-AND-LETTERA/Documents and are named as follows:

    gmaptz.img
us_northeast.img (I did not downloaded the entire map, but maybe should try that too so to know the name of the whole USA map is it still gmapsupp.img or something else)
    D3157110A.sid
    D3630090A.JCV

So as you can see it is not in .System or /Library/... but will try to put my map as additional one in the conventional names and if that does not work, would try to replace the map and .sid files with mine naming it the same way and see it from there.

Good Job figuring out this, Mikemastercorp!
Please post once you have figured out the rest...
    Thanks
