    thanks

    EDIT:
just found that this error only shows when wifi or edge/3g is enabled.

My iPhone is jailbroken 5.0.1 and is displaying the same error message.
Appears when Wi-Fi or 3G connection is active.
With the Internet offline, reinstalling Garmin works perfectly again.
    Some found the solution?

Authentification failure seems to be a kind of protection for garmin-nav.app. I have purchased app and it works with any map.
Possible solution is to ban gold.garmin.com and bronze.garmin.com to 127.0.0.1 in hosts file (as _http://gold.garmin.com/OBN/OBNServlet and _http://bronze.garmin.com/OBN/OBNServlet are used for requests).

You may find initial problem research here:

Also I found that TargetConfig.plist has the option that can be changed:
    <key>navigation_map_style</key>
    <string>North America</string>
    has acceptable value:
    <key>navigation_map_style</key>
    <string>Europe</string>
    - top bar became blue
    - speed limit sign is "european"

If I change client_type_id in this file, application writes Authentification failure message.

Also we could expect multiple onboard applications:

    com.garmin.onboard.WesternEurope
    com.garmin.onboard.CentralAndEasternEurope
    com.garmin.onboard.CentralEurope
    com.garmin.onboard.BeneluxAndFrance
    com.garmin.onboard.SpainAndPortugal
    com.garmin.onboard.Nordics
    com.garmin.onboard.AlpsAndDach
    com.garmin.onboard.ItalyAndGreece

no. garmin doesnt request activated maps to servers. it just uses it to traffic, POI and extra features.

thanks neadrenalin for the info. i used Firewall IP to block garmin and it works great!

when I add map in garmin app , "Activation of maps requires Internet connection. Please ensure you have a connection to the Internet using either your data plan or Wi-Fi"

Here is solution for jailbreak iPhone.

Extract and install Garmin downloaded from here

    - From Cydia, add the repository cydia.xsellize.com

    - Download and install the package FIREWALL IP from the repository

    - When you restart, perform firewalling

    run FIREWALL IP

    - Go GLOBAL DENY

    - Press TAP TO ADD A HOSTNAME

    - type in gold.garmin.com:80 and press OK

    - At this point it may be possible to run the Garmin without problems

I have tried blocking garmin but I to get activation of maps requires Internet connection. When I allow Internet connection I then get the error message Authentification Failure. Help

    For iPhone with jailbreck.

if you don't want to install "FIREWALL IP" for just one program then add following line to the hosts file in /etc (use free iFunBox.exe)

    Line in /etc/hosts file:
    Code:

    iPhone 4 jailbroken
I think you may need the purchased app for it to work

    Got it going

Each file i transfered to the divice required the Ownership & permission to be set to

    Ownership:
    Owner: mobile; Group: mobile

    Access Permissions:
    User: Read, Write, Execute
    Group: Read, Execute
    World: Read, Execute

THX heaps Garmin iz da best
