OK, so the Garmin Mobile PC software works with non-Garmin GPS, good to know. Now we all can guess what model(s) are those non-Garmin GPS devices. For example your device.

So would you mind/be so kind and add that information, so we all will know at least one non-Garmin GPS device which work together with Garmin Mobile PC. Thank you.

Hi - I'm using the latest version of GMPC with a Globalsat BU-353 GPS receiver and it works brilliantly. If some people are having problems pairing their non Garmin receivers with MobilePC it could have something to do with the Baud rate. I'm not an expert at this so someone with better knowledge could explain better but I believe that MobilePC works at 4800 b/sec so your receiver should be set for this rate. I got software with my receiver and the default setting was 9600 which had to be changed for the com port that windows designated.
    Hope this helps someone.
    Regards

    Hello all nice forum.
Anyways my problem is is this the software version only.
Because i am trying to use a globalsat bt 338x and it is saying no devices found.
Another less informative forum said that it should work but with software only version.
Is there special settings i need to do with the receiver or should it work. Also is the some software to use to do this.
I see above it needs 4800 baud to run and waas enabled, managed to set waas but not baud.
I have used gpsgate and got it to work with nroute but even nroute on its own wont work.
I get a message in nroute saying " DIO_UIAACCESSPOINT >CPP-33-2.7.6.0 Invalid window handle"
I have been using a garmin usb gps 18 with keygen and it works fine but i was trying to get rid of the wires a bit.

    @Gps nut

Have you created a SW.UNL file with the device ID of your GMPC installation? Instructions link by catymag at the end of post #1 in this thread.
Garmin Mobile PC works different depending on if it's connected to a Garmin unit or a NMEA 0183 unit. It's important to use a correct SW.UNL file to unlock GMPC for a non Garmin GPS receiver.
If you have a correct SW.UNL file and it still doesn't worlk - Try Franson GpsGate for PC that can emulate and transform most GPS data streams.

good point but unable to get device id to create sw.unl as in nroute with gate it comes up with 1234567890 and this is useless.
Is there a program that will give me the device id
also if this is the case nroute would work and give me the device id

Arrow Garmin Mobile PC - Settings - About shows "Software Device ID"

If you've been following the installation guides for GMPC you will found "Software Device ID" after selecting "Settings" and "About" in the application.

    OK
    Veiron, Thanks for the guidence.
Got it going finally, but let me explain something interesting.
Previous to using the BT338x i was using a Garmin gps usb 18.
The way i unlocked it was run nroute and up top go to utilities get gps info and it would display "GPS" id.
Using this i would use jetmouses keygen and generate the mobile pc SW.UNL file and put it in mobile pc directory.
Then mapsource unlock i would use the "gps" id and the map product id to generate map unlock code.
This worked perfectly for the USB GPS 18 and another Bluetooth device i did about a year ago (cant remenber the model sorry).
Hope this explains why i was getting confused.
I was trying to follow the same pattern but could not get the BT338x to show up on NROUTE let alone get it to connect to MOBILE PC.

Now following all advice to the letter including downloading the software version of Mobile pc and using the device id given to me by mobile pc before i turn on the BT338X i generated the unlock code for mobile pc and then turned on the mobile pc program and the BT338X and viola it works.
Then i generated an unlock code for the map and tested that and it worked.
Finally i have to say yesterday i was a little disappointed when after all the forums i visited said that Globalsat units all worked and mine didnt.
Oh one more thing and i dont know if this had needed to be done but the unit came with software to adjust the receiver so i turned on the WAAS and made it gps only rather than gps and logger.
Once again thanks to all on this forum and i hope that this dribble above helps someone else.

    Hello all,

i have some trouble with MobilePC 50070 on a PC with Windows XP:
When i look to a gmapsupp.img of a topo map, some small roads appear as a kind of "dashed line", it means i see 2cm line, 2 cm "background", 2 cm line, 2 cm "background" ans so on. In this way it s not possible to see the road as a continuous line.
When i look to the SAME map / file on garmin unit (NÜVI), it looks all ok (i see the road as a continuous line).
Has someone an idea what could be the reason for this ?

    Thanks.
    greetings from hellsking

Furthermore if i stay in browsing map mode for a while Que application stop responding and i have to restart mobile PC.

Thank you for your time, I ll appreciate any suggestion and gladly to provide more information if nessesary.

I keep getting the error "unable to authenticate gps hardware" I am trying to use a 60 csx. I have followed the instructions over and over. I have tried using the 60csx ID mobile pc setting and that generate copy and saved as sw.unl I have also done the custom mapid at the bottom and done the same thing and I still get the message. I have uninstalled and re installed a few times to the same result. I have generated about 20 sw changes still nothing is working. Also I have mapsource installed and tried to send maps but it is saying no map in the mobile pc. What am I doing wrong.
