That is not possible. Therefore You will need to have the full installable version of the topo map.

Thank you for that great upload. I've been searching for a while now.

And now, the topo map should appear and You will be able to use Your main map as well. The topo map works as an overlay...
I did it as instructed, but it doesn't work this way on my etrex Vista hcx.
The CityNavigator 2010 is named "gmapsupp.img" and the topo austria is named "gmapsup2.img".
Both are on the 4GB mini SD card. If I delete one of them and only have one map with the name "gmapsupp.img" everything works fine.
The 4GB card works fine, so I guess there's something wrong with the naming.

This name works just fine for me with Garmin Mobile XT. Be sure to have both of this cards activated within Your Garmin Mobile XT Software. You can avtivate and deactivate every map.

First check, if the topo map is correctly listet within Your Software.
To do so, open Garmin Mobile XT. Go to "Tools" and click "Manage My Data". Now chose "Map Sets". At the bottom right there You will find "MapSource", click this. Now You get an overview with every map detected by Your Garmin Mobile XT.

In my case there it shows the following:
    - Topo Österreich v2
    - CN Europe NT 2010.10

If the topo map doesn't show up on this screen, something is wrong. If it shows up, remember to check it (click onto check box on the left).

Both IMG-Files have to be within the same folder, GARMIN.

You can try the following alternate names:
    gmapbmap.img (basemap)
    gmapprom.jmg
    gmapsupp.img
    gmapsup2.img (only one "p")

So it is possible to have the required 1 basemap + 3 extra maps, not more.

    On windows mobile try:
    gmapbmap.img
    gmapprom.jmg
    gmapsupp.img

    Just try!

Thank you Gast01 for your help.
I tried all the different methods you suggested and used the tutorial made by catymag.

After some reading about the etrex vista hcx I found out that the unit
is only able to handle a mximum of 2048MB. Both maps (city navigator and topo austria) are approx. 2,2GB. Even stored on a 4 GB card the unit can't use them. The only chance to use the topo ist to carry it on a seperate card with me, or to limit the city navigator to central europe. The later option is not possible, because I use the already unlocked and full image version found here and Mapsource doesn't work on my linux computer.

    Oh, too bad!

But why don't You use this one?
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Here You have IMG-Files of different regions, for example, the alps including full detailed coverage for Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Southern Germany, Northern Italy and Eastern France. Or DACH, with full detailed map coverage for Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and cities in the Czech Republic...

One region is much smaller than the full european image. So with this version You should be able to use both, the region image and the topo austria, one Your card and stay under 2GB of size.

    Just give it a try.

And also You should introduce Yourself here:

Just download, extract and copy IMG-File to Your memory card. Works quite fine for me!

My downloads are never unlocked, cause unlocked maps have problems with nuvi devices.
Also when mixing a locked and unlocked map on the same device, u get problems. This is independant from Nuvi, the prblem is reported on every device.
In your case, its possible that u have the same issue like Nuvis

    Default img- file?

    Hello Tom1807!

Thank you for the files. I've downloaded and extracted them all. But unfortunately... there's no "img"- File! I've started decompression with the first file.

    Where's the mistake??
