WIN CE A little help if you could.

Hi, first post here so please forgive me if I miss any information, or post this in the wrong place. I have recently bought a Chinese Reakosound RK-7157G in car media player/satnav/reversing camera thing. I am wondering if I did the right thing buying something so cheap but since it seems to be working I will persevere.

It came with Igo Primo 9.6.13.405512? but I am not convinced it is a genuine copy (there is no mention of the company on the Igo site). I have looked at several posts and did download one of the versions here. All the license files i got in it appear to match what was in the download. Anyway, it seems to work fine as long as I leave it alone, but I want to tinker and add skins. This is where it goes wrong. I can add the skin and then select it just fine. It's when the app restarts that it all falls down. It freezes. The progress bar runs up to full and then nothing, no errors and no navigation. I then have to edit out the skin section in the system.ini file to get it running.

I have read through as many posts as I can here but an drawing a blank. Some pointers at least where to look would help.

I have tried 3 skins that do this: diMka WA P.1.7.4 - Ultimate Glass, diMka WA P.1.7.4 - Ultimate Sapphire and diMka WA P.1.7.4 - Ultimate Titanium (all supposedly for wince, which the machine is running) and Doupas_mod_by_Korabi (which does restart but then there are no visible icons/menus or anything after a restart). I tried version 9.6.5.278914 which, after much faffing around, managed to get working but with the same result.

What little hair I have left would appreciate some advice.

    Cheers

    Moved to proper section.

    Hi SimonCandest,

Your device does not have original software, so in way it should be same as those posted here.
Very probably it has some modifications which are no compatible with skins you are trying to use.
As 9.6.13.405512 is one of better (and latest) versions of Primo for WinCE correctly cracked, I would suggest to first install clean version.
Try version posted By Boki here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] or in next post, depending on device resolution.
Then try to add skin you like.

Before changing anything backup old program.

Thanks Midnight. I will try that later as my wife is away with the car today. The first thing I did was put a better quality sdcard into the unit as the one that came with it was petty poor so I have the original card as it arrived.

It's quite annoying that I buy something and don't get proper software on it but I suppose you get what you pay for. I might see if I can get Navit to work since it is genuinely free.

You bought it from Chine because it's cheap, meaning original software is not included in price.
Primo works great on almost all those devices, but you'll have to invest some of your time and effort in it.
And I would not buy Win device but newer with Android.

Yep, happy to do that. I'm having fun with it. It's the sort of thing I enjoy but I was drawing a blank.

And yes, I do get it about buying Chinese stuff. Not that it's bad, the stereo is brilliant, the display is clear and responsive and worked perfectly out of the box, but I am not a "happy with something out of the box" type of person.

sorry for off topic but as discussing the overall experience with Chinese wince device I'm wondering if there is any improvement of FM tuner reception. From my experience I found out that majority of these cheap Chinese wince based devices has very bad reception so it's almost impossible to enjoy listening any radio station..

Ok. Midnight Blues: it's working perfectly now so I'm a happy bunny and my hair has breathed a sigh of relief! I'm very grateful for the info.

janch: I don't often listen to the radio but I tested it and the reception was 1st rate. Just as good as the pioneer unit I had in it. The only reason I swapped it out (the pioneer unit) was I wanted satnav in the car without messing about with my phone. Plus I can now set up the reversing camera

<edit> I'm not sure if the radio is running on win ce. It may be separate as it still works without the sd card for the sat nav being inserted?

    Radio is always separate.
Actually, GPS is that its just addition to multimedia system
Before asking a question, know it's already discussed here and at 99.9% is not unique. Use search.

Many questions become very arduous, a lot of time chewed deja vu...Since we have lost all the year of work and effort, many people have no will to answer the same questions again. Me neither. Use a search, please.

Yes, I guessed that from my reading here. It would be interesting to see what the multimedia side of it is running on - if it is CE or something else. I am beginning to suspect it is a clone of a clone system rather than a direct clone. Still, it is working well and does what I need so won't grumble.

    off to find other skins
