StreetPilot for Garmin would possibly work

Hi, I've made some changes in TYP to most polygons and lines to make the map suitible as I prefer it when used on snowmobile and MTB. TYP file is here for You to try out: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

These maps are updated regularly and the amount of trails is excellent in many countries now.
You can download the maps for a single country but also for entire Europe (only 57MB).
The 'Wanderwege-Layer' zip files contain the img file and a Windows installation file for use in Mapsource/Basecamp as well.
and they handle routing similar to Active Routing?

@jensb: Transparent trailmaps are just map overlays without background and they don't even autoroute. They just show you all trails on top of your favourite Topo map and you can trail them just like like you follow a gpx track. Plain old simplicity!

The reason I find them better than AR Maps is the fact that they contain much more named trails than most Pro maps do and they are getting updated and elabourated on a daily base.

Another reason not to use Active Routing or any other form of autorouting when you are out in the wild is the fact that it drains your batteries very fast!

I have downloaded all parts of the retyped version and unzipped them to C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps\
I can see the map in Basecamp and Mapsource but I canīt get them into my Montana 600. The map isnīt visable in "Mapinsatall".
Do I have to rename something?

It's an img file to place directly on device or preferably an inserted media card, not a PC Install version [gmap folder that resides in C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps]. The IMG can't be seen by MS at all and unpatched BC sees it on a device or media card. You can only use a PC Installed Version to make an img file with MapInstall.
