Default Can't unlock maps in nuvi 57

I'm getting a "Can't unlock maps." error message. Could anyone help? Details below!

I downloaded the complete Europe 2017.20 maps in a torrent file mentioned in this thread (by BorAndrey, thanking r00tkit) and I'm trying to use them in a Garmin nuvi 57, from an SD card. I'm using a Mac to transfer/unlock.

Now, I've followed indications to put everything in the SD card in a folder named Garmin, then subfolders for the additional files (JCV, SQLIte, etc.). The torrent in question comes with IMG files for the main maps in two versions: locked (gmapprom.img) and unlocked (gmapsupp.img). I tried first to just use the unlocked one, got the "Can't unlock maps." message when the nuvi 57 starts with the SD inserted, followed by another one saying "Maps are corrupt and cannot be used. Go to
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
to download the latest maps." Then I used the Mac version of gimgunlock v0.03 to unlock the locked map file, and I got the same result.

Could anyone point out what's going wrong? I can supply any additional information that you guys need. Thanks!

    Model: Nuvi 57/58 | HWID: 2087 | SWVS: 240 | MAP: Yes | GMA: Yes | MSV: Weak | GVS: Yes

MSV: Weak - it verifies the validity of map signatures in a simple way, you can unlock an .img using gimgunlock-0.03+MapSigPatch (without patching your firmware), but in case of unicode maps (CP 65001) you must modify the CP value.

    Try to use this unlocker
Garmin Image Unlock gimgunlock up to v.0.03+MapSigPatch
you can unlock an .img using gimgunlock-0.03+MapSigPatch
That's the unlocker I used, for Mac. Is MapSigPatch a separate tool from gimgunlock? Because the Mac unlocker only has gimgunlock.

catymag, thanks for that reference! There's some useful info in there. The maps I'm trying to install are indeed Unicode, I'm gonna try to get a non-unicode version and see if it works first!

Mac gimgunlock cannot unlock signed imgs, non unicode signed imgs too.
You can change codepage in img or use non NT img, but you need Windows in any case to use gimgunlock+mapsigpatch, or get already properly unlocked maps.
If you use NT map you won't have the jcv for your model.
The patcher and Updater.exe need Windows too, but we can create files for sd

OK, thanks for your help! I tried NT unlocked maps (Europe 2017.10) but no luck. If I understand correctly, one of the options is to do the temporary authentication of unicode maps ([Only registered and activated users can see links. ]) changing the codepage. It seems simple enough if I get access to a Windows machine (probably a virtual machine, if this is OK). Or are does anyone supply unlocked and codepage-changed maps that I can download?

I'd definitely prefer changing the codepage of an img than patching the firmware, even if it's just a temporary solution, especially not having access to a regular Windows machine.

Imho best option is to patch the sw.
You'll be able to use NTU map and its addons, for example its jcv.(NT version jcv won't work in your nuvi)
You would need windows gimgunlock+mapsigpatch too because all the new Garmin maps are signed now.
Mac is not good for this kind of hacks use virtual Win or find a friend with a pc.

    I've got a request.
I downloaded the Mapsource file via the torrent in post #21.
Now I was unlocking it when I run into trouble with file in this directory City Navigator Europe NTU 2017.20.gmap\Product1\00569545. The unlock just halts there. It says writing to file but seems unable to finish it.
I rechecked the torrent files and it indicated partial download with the files in directories 00569544/545 and 546. I downloaded these again but unfortunately the problem remains. Strangely enough.
Can anyone upload (the content of) directory 00569545 for me? It's less than 5 mb's. I expect/hope that that will solve the unlocking halt problem.

Thanks, X-Trail, for your fast response.
I'm gonna see if it does the trick...

Edit: There seems to be some problem with the 546 directory. I have no authority to delete it... Hmmm...
    ...Solved by restarting.
It seems to have done the trick. Must have been some small file error.
YES! The unlock has passed the three directories. Thank you !
