    This update fails to run on my Nuvi 260. Is there way to make it work?

    @garvinay
    Fails how? Do you mean the .exe won't run? If so, EXTRACT the EXE file to find the map .img file inside 'MapData' folder. You don't need any other files for your 260. Don't use the NTU [unicode] map as your device's search functions won't work properly with that.

    Thanks Neil, actually I tried that but the new update 2016.20 works on my android phone but not on my nuvi. The older version 2015.40 works on my nuvi which was bought in 2008. I wonder if Garmin has stopped supporting newer maps on older devices?

    No, I haven't made any changes to the .unl files. I have only replaced the older gmapprom.img with the new one after unlocking it. Thanks.

    You need be more specific about the problem and give concise unambiguous information, the above in red could mean you've left existing .unl files in place. Check carefully on your device and SD card [if used] for any files named either *.gma or *.unl. Back them up and remove them if present. Ensure that the new gmapprom.img is enabled [Tools>Settings>Map>Map Info, should be a check mark in the box next to the India map]. If the map works on your phone then the problem's with the device.

    Thanks for the download link. I got the exe and when I try to extract it, it is asking for the device to be connected. Here is my problem with it. I have a 6 yr old Nuvi 765T and its battery life is not so good. The device is not charging through the USB cable and does not power on unless I connect it to the car power adapter. While this is a different problem, I would like to just know the location of the files extracted, so that I can locate the gmapprom.img, unlock and copy it on my device.

    Sadly, I could not find the temporary location on the Windows Laptop. Some posts said, Local Settings and I have no access to those folders. If any one has the unlocked IMG files hosted, that would also help.

    Thanks a ton in advance.

    It's trying to run if it's looking for the device. You must extract the file, not run it. Use Universal Extractor:

    When you extract the EXE, you'll see a folder named 'MapData'. It has the locked gmapprom.img inside. Unlock it with [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

    Thanks Neil. It worked. Now, my Garmin Nuvi 765T is back to life again. Though my car has MMI, I always prefer to use Garmin as the MMI has really gone bad these days in quality.

    This map upgrade seems to be quite exhaustive with tons of POI. Loving it. Thanks for the post and the help you guys have offered.
