Hard reset the unit: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Check the map in [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] for errors. Report back what firmware version you're using if you still have a problem, or update it to V7.80 with GarminExpress or WebUpdater if it's got older fw.

The firmware is the last as the WebUpdater states it. I've cheked it and the map is not corrupted. I have already done the factory reset but the problem persists. It`s a bit strange because if I revert to 2016.20 version it works all correctly. I think it's problem with the unlock or something that is not related to the device itself.

Almost certainly now it's been narrowed down to a problem with 2017.10 image file . Usually a locked image will load but then 'Can't Unlock Map' message displays, in your case the map is not loading fully and crashes the device. If that map img file was in fact loaded to the internal memory it would probably 'brick' the device. Where did you get the map? You said 2 sources, but it may even be the same file uploaded to two hosts. It was locked when you got it going by Post #39 so how did you unlock it? Best to use only [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

First I downloaded the img of all europe through the torrent of post #4. Then I tried the one from post #1. I've unlocked both of them with gimgunlock.
In the internal memory I have Iberia 2017.10 and it works perfectly. The img of Iberia was already unlocked when I downloaded it.

Incredible, it's working. What I did was rename Iberia gmapprom to gmaprom so the device could't detect it. After that I inserted the sdcard with Europe and it worked. Once checked that it's working I renamed Iberia to gmapprom and now the nuvi works fine with two maps loaded.
It's very strange, I don't know how to explain it.

Not incredible, you cant have two city nav. maps covering the same area in Nuvi. Nuvi will show up fine one of them only.
Weird it's now it shows up, but if you keep both maps you'll have problems I guess driving in Spain.

Could you define better what type of problems will I have? I've always updated Garmin in this way(one small map in internal and the big one in sdcard) and it always worked perfectly. The unique difference this time was that I had to unlock the map of all Europe myself because I could't find it unlocked.

Keep in mind that having multiple routable maps enabled that cover the same area can cause some routing anomalies and is not recommended.
If they have the same FID only one would show up in nuvi.
It is possible to have multiple routable overlapping maps but you must deselect which one you are not using.
If the maps for the same overlapping area are not transparent, they will have a "precedence" setting in them. That is, if you have two nontransparent routable maps for the same area and you have both of them selected to display, your Nuvi is smart enough to know it can only display one of them. So it will check the "precedence" on both maps to decide which one to display.
In case of City Navigator maps are being displayed "on top" of any other kind of map in nuvis.
Map draw order, routing and transparency. These are features of a map that can be changed/removed with some tools.
If one of the maps is "transparent", you will be able to see both maps at the same time but, if routing is present in both maps, it will be anomalous because nuvi will get different routing at the same time.

You can buy a 4 GB microSD card [very few Euros] if you don't have one already, download the full EU image file and place it like this: sd:/Garmin/gmapsupp.img. You can even have a second map in the card's Garmin folder named gmapsup1.img if there's room for it. 2x5 nuvi can even use quite large cards and read both FAT16 and FAT32 equally well. The small internal flash of those early devices makes the media card option the best way to go and if the 'unlocked' map ever causes a problem you simply take the card out.

Also you should read [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Mainly it was written to explain about GB vs GiB but it does also explain that some / most older devices [including all 2xx nuvi models] are NOT limited to a 2 GB media card OR an under 2 GiB map image.
    good evening.
if I put the whole European map, the GPS will not be slower than with the smaller map (in this case Iberia + France)?
    best regards.

    1. Download the "PC Install" version of the map. Part of the download is the *.gmap folder.
    2. Then read: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
    3. Scroll down to "Have you downloaded a Gmap folder ?"

By using the PC installable version of the map, you can use MapInstall to create any custom version of the map.
    the Unlock_Mapset_2.rar doesn't work
