It is the oldest Garmin rudiment! If you update device without SD card and device has not have a sufficient memory the Garmin MapUpdater try to replace Full JCV to Medium JCV with small size and half quantity of JCV. I encountered this problem on Nuvi 765 (non Unicode version). You can search my posts dated many year ago. I do not remember who name this file (Medium JCV) as Split-Screen but mistake go on from release to release. The genuine Split-Screen is D3589190A.JCV in this release...

Giomen, it's only for Europe NTU or for all Garmin maps?

And maybe there's some tool to view quantity of JCV's data?

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] for viewing JCV images (and much more). File>open JCV file>pictures.
Most nuvi's JCV are made of photorealistic background images (jpg) and semi transparent images with arrow directions (png) that are put together as final SVGz images (Scalable Vector Images zipped). This way the road signs and their letters are not pre-painted images, but they are drawn clearly as "fonts" every time, so they don't suffer from zoom pixelation. You can count the number of SVGZ images in such a JCV file.
Nuvis 4x/5x/6x JCV files are made of pre-painted png images (backgroung, direction arrows, road signs, letters) and every JCV final image is a combination of these "general" pngs, so it's not possible to count the exact number of final JCV images in a file.
I haven't looked in non european JCVs to know if this happens to other maps (but I will).

For City Navigator North America NT, take a look [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

It is Garmin feature (фича) for device. I think it is depended of maps if they have the cutted version or not (Russia map do not have this sample). But I am noticed many years ago that if device had a small quantity of free space the some SW rewrote the LaneAssistFull Identifier with LaneAssistMedium in garmindevice.xml. So the cutted file was installed during update. I am sure that it was a reality because the old map update software do not had compatibility with SD card...
