    @ x-trail
Thanks for your input regarding the Greek-Latin jargon. I know about the ΕΛΟΤ-743/ISO-843 (though I did not know that Garmin was following this norm. I was suspecting they were following some kind of norm though).

My story is the following: I recently updated the 2 1450s (let's call them 1450A+1450B) of 2 friends and my daughter's 1490T (all US versions bought by me in the USA).
First I updated the firmware to the latest v6.30 (common for all 14xx I guess) on all nuvis with webupdater.
Then I updated the 1450A (without an SD card !!!):
    1) I left the original map CN North America NT 2011.10 in the nuvi (as gmapprom.img)
    2) I deleted the old Auto Drive Hellas 4.01 (Greek) and some useless (keyboard/help/voice) files-I kept a backup though. I left only English+Greek files in order to fit the new map:
    3) I copied the latest Auto Drive (Hellas) 4.20 (Greek NT) /Tracer map UNLOCKED in: Nuvi/Map/Auto Drive Hellas v4.20T(el).img
A short test proved that the map was ok and the search was working fine (and the new junction view!! though the views are still primitive).

    Then I moved to 1450B (it had a 4GB SD-card which I replaced with a 32GB SD-card, the owner requested it):
    1) I left the original map CN North America NT 2011.10 in the muvi (as gmapprom.img)
    2) In the 32 GB SD-card I copied in \Map subdir:
    - SDcard\Map\CNEUNTU2017.10.img (CN Europe NTU 2017.10 UNLOCKED) and the associated JCV file in the SD\Garmin\JCV\ subdir
    - SDcard\Map\CNUSNT2017.10.img (CN USA+CANADA NT 2017.10 Map (UNLOCKED) and the associated JCV file in the SD\Garmin\JCV\ subdir
    - SDcard\Map\Auto Drive Hellas v4.20T(el).img (GREEK Auto Drive 4.20 UNLOCKED) and the associated JCV file in the SD\Garmin\JCV\ subdir
A short test proved that the map was ok (I could see the greek map)

In the 1490T (which has a 4GB SDcard)
    1) I left the original map CN North America NT 2011.10 in the muvi (as gmapprom.img)
    2) I copied:
    - SDcard\Map\Auto Drive Hellas v4.20T(el).img (GREEK Auto Drive 4.20 UNLOCKED) and the associated JCV file in the SD\Garmin\JCV\ subdir (after I had deleted the Auto Drive Hellas v4.01 already installed)
    - I left the existing map: SDcard\Map\CNEUNTU2014.30.img (CN Europe NT 2014.30 UNLOCKED) and the associated JCV file in the SD\Garmin\JCV\ subdir
A short test proved that the maps were ok (I could see the USA map, Europe Map(2014) and the Greek map (Auto Drive Hellas).

    I further tested 1450B (US NT 2710.10 + EU NTU 2710.10 + Auto Drive Hellas 4.20 Installed)
Only Auto Drive Hellas 4.20 (Greek) Selected:
When I was searching for a city or street: none was proposed. For example: I entered a (Greek) "A" for city, the nuvi was suggesting NO CITIES!?!
I remembered the post of "panoshm" (or somebody else) who had mentioned a problem in searching all maps after he had installed EU 2017.10 NTU
Then I enabled only the EU 2017.10 NTU and I had the same problem. In the EU 2017.10 NTU: I could not search for cities starting with a (Latin) "a" ?!?
I recopied Auto Drive hellas (Greek) onto itself (in case I had accidentally copied the LOCKED img): Same problem: Map was ok but no search at all.

I reset the nuvi and copied again all the maps disabling the EU NTU (actually I renamed to *._img). Now it was working both the Greek Auto Drive Hellas and the USA 2017.10 but I had another problem. When I was changing the category of my favorites to a new one ("Athens" for example or "Outside of Athens") I was getting all my favorites in one category (though I tried to type categories in Greek or Latin alphabet)
I tried to reset nuvi and select Locale GREEK or English or changing the language settings - I still cannot see the different categories of my favorites...

The other nuvis (1490+4GB SD card: US 2011.10 NT + EU 2014.20 NT +Auto drive Hellas (Greek) 4.20 NT
and 1450A (no SD card): US 2011.10 NT + Auto drive Hellas (Greek) 4.20 NT
have no problem with favorite categories (?!?)

To be honest I am a bit confused - perhaps I missed something important in "my story"....

Currently I am downloading the CN EU NT 2016.20 to try again with this one.

Hi, iam new at this great forum (not in GPS/Garmin world).
Ive read the posts (i think all of them) but cant figure wheres my problem.

GPS: NUVI 2689 C4 (already firmware patched)
    USA 2017.10 preinstaled (working ok)

    Download the Europe 2017.10
unzip and Copy the Europe gmap folder.
Basecamp OK for this map. also i can do routes, search streets, cities, etc. Very nice.
TRY TO SEND to the Nuvi2689 (the mapsintall loads)
The Europe 2017.10 is NOT there. NO MAP selectable. (whattt??)
The mapinstall says something like "your gps has all the maps updated".
In fact, i need only FRANCE and like to select it in the basecamp and transfer only this country.
Insist: i think i read the forum and try to figure whre is my problem for 2 days... so, sorry if its a dumb question, but im stucked here.

    thank you very much!

    Is the France map unlocked?
    .img naming?
Unlock it with gimgunlock+mapsigpatch, rename it to France.img and copy in Sd/Map

caty, dont know wheres the France img.

i have the whole gmap folder for the Europe 2017.10.

The weird thing is that Basecamp see it and the Mapinstall refuses to see it to transfer.

Ok your gmap is not unlocked probably, unlock it with [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
    Then use Mapinstall.

Instead of BaseCamp, try using MapInstall directly. Download the patched version here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
You say BaseCamp can see the European map 2017.10 NTU. Then MapInstall should be able to see it too.
Select the required map tiles. Instead of sending to your device, this time send the map file to an SD or microSD. Just to see if the process works. If so, then try sending the map file to the device, still using MapInstall only.

I think you recognize what if you will use basemap for loading maps then you will lose the many very useful features which are supported by your device!? Even for pedestrian mode! May be use a big memory card to place whole map of Europe with all needed additions to it?

    @bsasdesign
Did you properly read Post #96 and UNLOCK the gmap folder?

If you use only a part of EU mapping [e.g. France] you will not have full Voice Command functions for instance so giomen's advice is to install the FULL EU mapping. He did not mean that BaseCamp will install directly, when you go to "Maps>Install Maps" in BaseCamp it only invokes MapInstall to do the compiling and install of the img file to the device or media card. As also said by smokefree in Post #97, there is no need to involve BaseCamp at all because you can simply open MapInstall directly being as BC & MI are separate programs. MI will 'see' any gmap folders on your PC which are either unlocked or locked to a specific connected device. Use the patched version for even more flexibility: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. We can't give detailed individual tuts in map threads so please look in the Tutorials or the MapInstall software thread, post there if you need to only after reading.

If this is becoming just too complex for you perhaps you should just download the full or partial EU image, unlock it and place it on a microSD card as 'gmapsupp.img' in a root folder named 'Garmin' (X:/Garmin/gmapsupp.img). You won't have anything other than basic navigation, no ASR Voice Command or Junction Views etc but it'll get you around France ok.
