The three maps you mention are not associated to any specific detailed map (like the CN North America NT).

gmapbmap.img is the world basemap in your unit.
gmaptz.img contains a database for world time zones.
gmapdem.img adds relief shadings on a detailed map.

Have a look here and scroll down to WORLD AND BASE MAPS and VARIOUS:

Whether your car navigation accepts the 3D map, depends on the model. Only specific Garmin models are compatible with 3D map files.

Noob question, have mercy please. I've studied the maze of the tutorials and general how-to's. I've managed to get a Nuvi 1490 test unit loaded with this mapfile (img). CN North America NT 2016.10.

I've loaded the latest Basecamp from the links here. And I have patched it without issue on Win7 64. I set the img file's flag to zero following the instructions (once I figured out I had to pick "advanced" to be able to follow the instructions).

So I'm trying to do my homework best I can.

All loaded, GPS is functional, appears to be working and have the current map version number.

    Here's my questions...

I connect it to ht ePC and once recognized, in Basecamp I select Maps, then check the 2015.10 file. (It is defaulted to an older 2015.10 map file I have loaded somehow). When I choose that more recent map I get a yellow warning bar that says CN North America CN 2016.10 has certain limitations. Click here for options, show limitations. I do and it tells me due to license restrictions this file has "reduced map window for printing", OK.

Then I get a second warning, the one that I'd like to work around, that says "the device containing the file xxxx2016.10 is connected with limited speed. This may affect the performance of Basecamp."

I gather this means the map file is on the device (only) and my PC has to access it over the slow USB connection to the device. Is there a way I can load it onto the PC so basecamp can see it and work with it from the PC and not over the USB connection? Grateful for any pointers to how-to's if I missed it.

Or if I'm asking in the wrong place, grateful for a pointer to the best/right place, too.

    Thanks,
    Scott

    G'day Scott,

To load it to the PC you're best to download the PC Version aka 'Map Source data' [i.e. gmap folder]. Read here where to place it: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Scroll down to 'Have you downloaded a gmap folder'. It's also possible with patched BaseCamp to see an img file on any drive, including your PC's main system drive. Or you can create a virtual SD: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

BTW, this map is now superseded so download the latest version here Mate: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Post there if you have any further questions, i'm closing this thread now as it's been left open thru an oversight previously.
