AFAIK, MD2 is the fuzzy search index. It's used by devices to get better search results when you search for POIs.
Take a look at this file with a hex-editor ...

It is more like 3 letters vocabulary index on top of page but for cities. At the list we found all existence of first 3 letters for all cities (all populated locality) in Finland (CN Europe NT) at time. I good remember the fact because as usually it was ended the role play booze. It was game the one tried to remember names of city peculiar for Finnish language the second checked how many existences with this first 3 letters was found for all Europe in mapsource. Bonus was giving to who spell city with the least number of found place.

But it is not for Russia probably! Maybe reason that map of Russia is not full. For example I do not find in cities menu the ПУДОЖ in spite of about 10 000 of citizens in this town! And so on, so on, so on...

Edit: After look for the MD2, seems to me that nobody knows for what it serves...; this is a job to the Navigation Software Experts!
MD2 is present in IMG too. But for some device it download as a separate file.

instaAdresses is not correct. It is predicative data for AddressSearch - Address Search Gray-Out for keyboard...

I looked at the coverage map, and I had a question.
Will there also be a part of the Baltic detailed map (as in the case of Belarus and Ukraine)?

BY & UA are also included in [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] & [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] but not extensively, probably same or similar coverage as in this map. UA has a dedicated CN, but it's not in our index, 50 bucks from Garmin:
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
I don't think there is a Belarus CN. Other options are available in the [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. If you are asking just for the Baltics, they are available in the EU map links above.

Baltics countries on this map only for routing through these countries from Russia to anklav in Kaliningrad region. Belarus and Ukraine is old OSM version but with limited number of detailed cities that be not renewed and you can see these cities list on site of Russian distributor:

Spoiler: Coverage and change log for this map
    http://www.garmin.ru/gps-karty-dlya-avtonavigatorov-cat/city-navigator-russia.html

Therefore map of Belarus and Ukraine be intended for routing through these countries from Russia to Crimea or other resorts of Black Sea. I do not think that Navicom could guess about Crimea crisis. Both country as Belarus and Ukraine was absolutely free for visit Russian citizens without any passport restrictions and visa.

It is for now! In future release it will be big changes. The first, Navicom is beginning cooperation with genius independent project of KartaBy and this project is the best map of Belarus. The second, we all know about Crimea and I think Navicom urgently will redraw full coverages of this peninsula from available data in OSM. Still not published the synchronous release of non Garmin version of map is said about it!

Neil! This map is obsolete and was intended for Asus-Garmin cooperation project which died at 2012:

The CN Europe NT have more detailed and newed map of Ukraine but it is not perfect for actual routing and it have more searching bugs for foreigners especially. But no special SW for device is needed as for local maps. OSM map is not worse for occasional trip.

Yeah, but at least they admit upfront that it's from 2012 on the webpage. Bit of a cheek for Garmin to want $50US for an obsolete UA standalone when you can get the whole of EU CN incl later UA & BY data for 100 greenbacks. Nice work if the punters fall for it but i'm sure they don't sell many. Heck, nobody's even bothered to post it anywhere i reckon.

But if you collect a Garmin map it is not so much for rarity sample. 3 year is normally for $50US wine bottle especially if it is bottled at lucky year. For example Garmin have the same price for all BCh region. And do not forget how many people get you possibility to enjoy this wine. For example BCh where Norway or AU coast is much bigger than Russian inland waterway for detalization but price is the same. All want to have your money...

Not sure the Garmin map jockeys would appreciate their work being compared to that of fine vintners [or vice versa], however i do get your point and concede it. All vendors do indeed want to have your money and market forces determine the sales [or lack thereof]. If ppl will pay $50 for older map data sobeit. Me [and i guess you too] will take the nice red for the same money instead ... нет?
