Rayiu's comment (post #101) is not concern the device, it is collision of map only. Forget about Rayiu's comment if you do not want to find 3 historic houses that he mentioned. Now this building(s) was reconstructed and present one big storehouse and it is the reason of confusion in postal addresses but at all it is not problem because new map 2014.40 contain the actual restriction on adjacent streets what was made after reconstruction and is not present on old 2014.10 map. I think, now Rayiu is only planning route and when he will be at this place he understand the reason of collision and confusion too.

nuvi 205W is old device but it give odds to half of new models. For example, could you see route to destination even you are navigated to another route at this time without pressing GO! and without the longest tedious route calculation on new not expensive models? No! Only above 200 bucks would give you this possibility

Be care in map installation and all will be OK!!! This map is special for your device! Garmin do not throw veterans in trouble for exclusion the very old model produced in beginning of century (it must be died but working now in spite of everything and it is Garmin fault - Garmin recognize that and it is fixing a bug in new not longplay devices . For new we have Unicode version...

Many thanks for your reply Giomen. I do like my 205W and although it is old it still works very well and helps me find my way from one place to another I've also now updated the firmware from 2.50 to the latest 7.60 so hopefully that will make my old device a little more modern

I have downloaded the 2014.40 map for UK and Ireland (from post #62) and will soon put it on my 205W. It's a little more complicated as this is a locked map rather than the unlocked one I've been using. Although I have read in other posts how to unlock it so will do this with gimgunlock

The 2014.40 map also contains JCV file, but I assume I do not need this for my nuvi 205W?

    Thanks again

No, it can't use the JCV or any other 'fancy' additional files which is the reason why i suggested you download the 2 separate UK & Ireland images in my answer to your original post:

The separate Ireland and UK only images from bam-bam's Post #6 will do fine for you as you don't need any other files such as JCV. With latest firmware you can even put both in a Garmin folder on an SD card named gmapsupp.img and gmapsup1.img if you like.
For inexperienced users, better to put 'unofficial' maps on a card. That way if the .img files cause problems, just take the SD card out and the unit will work fine. A faulty image on the unit itself however can 'brick' it. Don't forget to de-select the unit's OEM map if it's covering the same area though.

Thanks Neil, I appreciate your patience with my newbie questions

Actually I did download the two files for UK and Ireland that you suggested, but was a little confused about how to use two separate files on my device. Especially as at that stage I hadn't updated the firmware (have now updated the firmware to latest 7.60).

Do I rename them gmapprom.img and gmapsupp.img, put both in the garmin folder on my 205W and the device will choose the correct one depending on location?

As already mentioned, I have now also downloaded the 2014.40 map for UK and Ireland (from post #62). This is a single file, although it is locked. I was planing to unlock it with with the gimgunlock tool. Is this a better option than having two separate files? I was planing to rename it gmapprom.img and place it in the garmin folder on my 205W.

    Thanks again for your help.

Like i said, i only suggested the 2 separate files originally because you didn't need the JCV that came with the locked UK/Ireland image. Unlock it with gimgunlock and you can place it in the Garmin folder directly on the unit if you wish, or in a Garmin folder on an SD as a safer option.

Hi Neil, just to let you know that I transferred the locked 2014.40 UK/Ireland map to my nuvi 205W (after renaming the existing map, just in case I needed to get it back if the new one caused problems). Then unlocked it with gimgunlock, disconnected from my laptop and switched on the nuvi. The new map loaded up fine (no messages about being locked etc). I tried searching for a few addresses, post codes etc and all appears to be working fine.

Thanks again for your help - it's nice to have the latest map up and running on my nuvi

(I also moved an updated safety camera file into the POI folder, but haven't had a chance to check if its working yet)

If you know or suspect where speedcams take place you can simulate the route only through this road segment and check a integrity. I recommend do it because the installation of this POI have its peculiarity too.

I didn't do the simulated route but was out earlier today and took a detour along a road with a speed cam. My nuvi 205W gave a single bleep just before I reached it, and also showed a picture of a speedcam on the map. It was only one speedcam, and obviously I have no way of knowing how many others there are missed or just not on the map, but an encouraging start nonetheless

Because it flagged up this one speed cam, at least I know the system is working. I just placed the speedcam file into the POI folder on my nuvi.

You can set in setting the continuous alarm and Nuvi will give continuous beep if your speed is more that permitted.
