    AFAIK, all the trails can be seen , even without the .db file.The trails are in the img files. This .db file is used for searching trails.

    @rollmops
    I have downloaded Topo Sud-Ouest v3 and no CRC error

    Yes, the major difference between Topo France v3 and both Topo Germany/TransAlpin 2012 is the fact that in Topo France all marked trails can be seen in Basecamp and all GPS even without the .db file.
    Topo Germany/TransAlpin 2012 need the .db file and the desired 'Activity' set correctly to see the trails for that specific activity. A very bad choice in my opinion because you won't be able to see both a marked hiking trail and a cycling trail at the same time.

    It's clear that Topo France is my fovorite.

    When I search for Named Trails in Topo France v3 Sud Est, I see only a few that are listed as bicycle trails (compared to the numerous named hiking trails).
    Why is this so?
    Is it that there really are only a few bicycle trails, or are there more bicycle trails, but they are not 'Named Trails'?
    Are you allowed to use the hiking trails in France for mountain biking?
    When I search for Named Trails in Transalpin 2012, I get lots of 'named' bicycle trails.
    Does this indicate that in France hiking is more popular than mountain biking, whereas in the area covered by Transalpin 2012 mountain biking is more popular?

    I can only speak for France since I know this country and its maps very well. First of all hiking marked GR-trails (Grande Randonnées) is much older than mountain biking (VTT in France). Garmin Topo France is based on IGN data and all IGN Topo maps only contain GR trails. Only some larger scale touristic maps contain some bike-trails. The area in France where I spend my holidays has many marked VTT-trails but none are shown on any Topo-map yet.
    In the Alps mountain biking is more popular (besides climbing an hiking) so there are more marked bike-trails developed over time.

    If you are interested in bicycle-trails I can advise you to download the free OpenFietMsmap (a Dutch product) which is updated and enlarged frequently. You can download separate countries but I would advise you to download the Europe map and make your own selection in Mapsource. You can't put the entire Europe-map on a GPS as one file since it's larger than 4GB (the FAT32 limit for file-size) but you could create 2 img files from it.

    Hi,
    In France, most of hiking trails are named GR (« Grande Randonnée » = « long trail ») and most of those GR are rideable with a mountain bike (it is allowed).
