But where, and how, is it found in gmaptool or how is it determined?

Is vendor #28 a generic "Third Party" vendor or a specific vendor (like Garmin themselves) ?

    Thanks

Strange. I have a legitmate Garmin Micro-SD card v2010 (v12.00) of HXUS039R-All of US. When I put that into my Micro-SD reader and go to the Garmin update server... I am offered a "Discounted" update for $59.

I tried making an SD card as instructed as it pertains to the VUS511L (which by the way worked for me) using a newer version of the HXUS039R (v2011.5 / v13.00). The server kept giving me the response that discounted or free updates only applied to g2 Bluecharts and not the Original regular Bluecharts.

I tried over and over using JM and the FID of 2453 for v2011.5 as well as the PID of "1". for the Region I put what gmaptool said it was (RgnID=19). I generated a key several different ways and tried them all.
I also tried leaving the VenID blank or 0, as well as putting in VenId of 28.

I always got the same message of no update for the "original" Bluecharts. Yet it did offer me the discounted update for an even older version.

What do you make of that ?

Whats missing that the Garmin server wants to see ?

Using Caty's example of GMapTool output as below
    Code:

4 is the Region ID and 28 is the Vendor ID for this map product.

Technically, 4 and 28 are Region ID and SubRegion ID respectively. That's why GMapTool groups them together. A map product can be divided into several regions, each with a Region ID, starting from 1. Similarly, each region can be further divided into several subregions, each with a SubRegion ID, again starting from 1. As you can see, both IDs are not globally defined, but a sequence number within a map product and a region respectively. You can also use the Region ID 0 and SubRegion ID 0 as a wildcard in JetMouse keygen to unlock all regions and all subregions respectively.

Historically, SubRegion ID was incorrectly named Vendor ID by me in 2007. Back then there was an active thread in other forum discussing about the newly found four IDs in a Garmin map product. Someone asked about the name of the 4th ID and I answered "Vendor ID?" based on my knowledge at that time. Notice that I put a question mark at the end because I was not sure then. Maybe due to the lack of a better name, JetMouse used this name in his keygen and it was coined since.

Ahhh.. NOW I see.... I was not paying attention enough when Catymag emphasized that the number "28" was the Vendor ID and I did really see that it was part of the Region ID, in fact, being the second number.

NUVI) plug that data into jetmouse keygen with PID:1 FID:2463 RGID:4 VedId:28 create a Unl file from the key generated and put it into a new folder and name it GARMIN then copy that folder to the formatted card created earlier Open your web browser and go to mygarmin.com create an account and download the communicator plugin plug in the sd card and it willl let you download 2012 for free due to the new free chart update promotion going on. Remember you only actually need the Unl file on the card for this to work no imgs needed!

In theory, this should work with any of the newly released maps I would think.

All we would need is the same specifics as you outlined for the other maps/charts.

Have you tried any others yet ?

Have you tried any other maps yet to see if you can spoof the server into giving another free update ?

We still need the PID, FID, RGID and VedID of the next to latest version in order to get the free update to the very latest version.

    I'll try some experimenting.

One thing I do know, is that Garmin records the SD Card number and makes it a part of your "MyGarmin" download History file.

So I don't know what happens if you try to use the same SD card over again for a different chart/map download.

Well... I did an experiment. I took the PID (1), FID (2453), RGID (19) and the VedID (7) for g2 Chart HXUS039R v2011.5 v13. It "should" have been the latest version prior to the release in Jan/Feb of 2012.

I created an Unhlock code using the PID,FID, etc using JM. I then created an UNL file in a Garmin folder on an SD card and tried the Garmin Marine update server. I kept getting a message that the g2 Update offer did not apply to the "original"Bluecharts, but only applied to "g2" charts.

The only thing I could do within Garmin at that point was to purchase a new chart at full price.

But oddly... when I used my oem Garmin SDS card of that SAME chart (HXUS039R) which was even OLDER ( v2010.5) it offered to let me "update" for a 60% savings of $59.

So there is a mystery. Why did I get offerd a discounted update price on a much older chart, and why did the Garmin server not see the newer v2011.5 as a g2 chart and make no offers of either a free or a discounted update ?

I double checked the FID,PID etc on the v2011.5 using gmaptool and I was definately using the proper FID etc to create an unlock Key using JM.

    Any ideas ?

I think Garmin got wise to this as I was able to do it one time. But now this method no longer works for me. I am sure Garmin patrols the forum and whenever we discuss something, they pay attention.

Perhaps I am wrong.... but if someone else wants to try the method 007 ACE describes, please let us know if it worked for you.

I have tried several times with no success.

Given that loophole has been closed, are you going to share what you downloaded with the rest of us?
