The tool to unlock it yourself is on page 1. Put the tool in the GMAP folder and run it. Sit back and watch as your map unlocks.

    Thanks for the maps!
I have a question: I could see the maps in Mapsource as "Not Lockable" and the img generated was not working. I made unl file with JM and it works. Is this normal or the img was supposed to work in the first place? Thanks

Looks like the JVC file is not availalble, Rapidshare indicates deleted by owner.

Copied & pasted from page 1.

Is there a reason you can't use the JCV file pietu posted?

I just checked it and it's still available on 4/5 links.

I downloaded CN NA 2011.4 (lower 49 states) directly from Garmin with map update. The JCV file I received was D2335040A.JCV (43,843KB)

you got the JCV for your map and your device
JCVs differ from units to units and from covered regions
Lower 49 states it's not the complete CNNAM map

I did too and it was far easier. Now, instead of having to worry about patched .EXE files and not being able to upgrade, I could simply install 2011.30, convert and unlock the maps, and be done with the entire process.

2011.40 from this site is probably the easiest map conversion I've ever done. Drop an unlocking .EXE into the GMAP directory, run it, and you're good to go once you copy the GMAP directory to where it is supposed to go. The only niggling issue I had was that the installer files were missing. I uninstalled 2011.30 thinking it would retain Mapsource and Mapinstall. Reinstalled 2011.30, ditched its maps, and I was good to go.

If it's this simple, why aren't more people doing the work themselves instead of begging for an .IMG file? Maybe it's me, but while I know quite a bit about the technical side of GPSrs including maps and POIs, there's always more that can be learned. As you see above, as you learn, you find simpler, easier ways of doing things.
Umm. I was doing pretty much what you were doing. With 2011.40 I downloaded the GMAP files. Once unpacked, The ran mapreverse converter but it didnt do sheet. It gave me a false negative that everything was unlocked. The only map that was unlocked was PC map via Mapsource. I wasted quite a bit of time copying all the maps onto my unit thinking the maps were unlocked like in the past. That was NOT the case. For the first time since 2005, I had to use Jetmouse and enter and create an unlock code. That, and only that worked for me.

Thanks for the support and reference to an alternative... Computers/applications are designed to make our lives simpler, not more complicated if at possible. The mindset of "there is a sense of satisfaction in doing the work yourself" doesn't apply to many people. I'd rather have my computer do the work for me, I am not ego driven :p
