    Hi Neil,

My problem is I have done a lot of reading and ended up totally confused with a nuvi 1250 that "Can't unlock maps" when I thought I had done that. I'm trying to install City Navigator Australia and NZ NT 2015.20 - Here.gmap
I'd like to know how to get back to a clean unit and start from scratch to achieve my goal. I do have a Nuvi 3590LMT as well and I'm wondering if I can use it's updates on the 1250 successfully? (The Old Fella)

G'day mate. The 1250 would have had Sensis loaded as OEM, but it can use the Navteq/HERE version map np.

If you run [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] on the map image sent to the 1250 it should work fine. Remove the oem map and any *.gma and *.unl codes if you haven't already. You can also make a copy of the LM HERE from the 3590, unlock it the same way and use it on the 1250.

No luck matey. Unit still shows "Can't Unlock Maps."
I think I would be better off going back to a bare unit and load everything again whilst checking each step has worked.
Do I just connect the 1250 to the PC and use Win explorer to delete everything or format the drive?
Is there a set of files (like an OS) that I have to load first, before I load any maps?
I haven't been able to find threads that would guide me on this.
I have been using MS to load to the 1250.

    Any help would be appreciated

If you have removed any other detail map from the unit along with any related *.unl/*.gma files leaving only the intended detail map and still getting the 'can't unlock maps' message then it's simply not properly unlocked. Use gimgunlock again or [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Try a download from another source if still not successful. You can check if the map's locked or unlocked with [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] under Info or Details tabs.

Best never to unnecessarily reformat any flash drive and certainly don't use the built-in windows tool to format a Garmin internal drive ever. Unless it's done properly using PMPrepUSB as part of a recovery it's totally not needed, and certainly not likely to help you with this problem.

Connecting to WebUpdater will allow you to replace any out-of-date software/files such as Voices etc including an update of the 'unit software' [firmware] if needed.

Is it true that new Garmin devices are using a blocking firmware to avoid non-original maps (Nuvi 65... 55.... and others)?
I intend to buy a new device and I am worried about it.
    Thanks.
