    Hi - great tutorial.

This may be a stupid question, but should I be downloading unlocked img files, or is it better to download locked ones and then unlock them?

    Thanks
    Mike

it's your choice and depends on your device and on map, mostly ,users prefere to unlock maps by themselves using the method they prefere -Locked IMGs are the original files ,untouched ones. Some units dont accept unlocked files.

First I'd like to say that catymag is a gentleman and a scholar for answering the same gd questions over and over again... you are a credit to the moderator comm...It is idiots like me
who must drive you crazy, however I will try to understand as best as I can...The tutorials have so much information that it is embarassingly overwhelming for moi. I just want to update the N A map to the 2011 version. I am a mac user so I have a 1.24 GMAPUPP file which I have tried to install after backing up the original...I have deleted as much stuff as I can to increase the size as I know that the NUVI 265w only has just under 2gb ...I have two identical units the first one accepted the file however the second one keeps giving me the error message not enough space. etc. The other thing I don't understand is how Road Trip puts partial maps of some states back in the unit but not all what is the difference?? to the map downloads?

    thanks again mr moderator

Sorry i dont have a Mac, so my Apple experience is very poor, but you can use Basecamp + Mapinstall to load maps in your nuvi. A tutorial here
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
    .
Copy your img in a pendrive in a Garmin directory and Basecamp will see it.
Latest CNNAM is 2012.20, in that thread you can find already compiled regions for devices not supporting big maps ( read the whole thread, some are in 2nd or in the following pages)

Unicode version is for nuvi 3xxx 2xxx . Older devices display map correctly but there can be problems with address search. Unicode version can display cyrillic and some other languages characters and signs. Coverage is the same than in normal NT map.

    Hello Catymag,

I have another confusing question(i am the one confused
    - When i download the Mapsource Gmap locked mapset directory of yours ( can be europe or North America for example ), and installed properly according to your instructions, and once those maps are unlocked via your instructions and transferred to the Garmin 3790T from Mapsource, will it automaticly have the 3dmap and JCV files or do i need to download those additional files separately always for my Garmin Nuvi 3790T ??

    1. Go to [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and scroll down to "Have you downloaded a Mapsource Gmap folder ?. A Gmap folder contains Map info only.

    2. Go to [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] which will explain about the additional files.

    3. It's fun to look for this stuff yourself, you'll learn quicker and find out other interesting stuff along the way by accident. Search is your friend.
