Am i naming them correctly ?? thanks
Garmin sells charts in sd cards (in Garmin directory) named gmapsupp.img, so I guess the right naming is always gmapsupp.img for every charts in sd/Garmin.

    Hello.
Tried using gimgunlock.exe for North America NT maps, device is Nuvi 2689 EU LMT. As said in the fist post, for devices 2xx9 it probbaly wont work and it didn't work. Got a few questions if someone knows the answers:
    - no other way to unlock maps for 2xx9 devices?
    - North America NT for 79.99$ digital download is with zero updates?
    - Line assist, Junction View, 3D buildings cannot be obtained in any way except for maps already on the device?
    Tnx

No, not for any 2xx9 incl your 26x9 with any of HWID 1772, 1948 1758, 1847 or 2xx7/8 HWID 2077 at present anyway. Don't give up hope on them though. If lucky enough to have 2xx7/8 HWID 1582 then maps unlocked with [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] will be ok.

That's correct, the US $79.99 is a 'one-off' map only. No ancillary files such as JCV, ASR etc are included.

    - Line assist, Junction View, 3D buildings cannot be obtained in any way except for maps already on the device?
This is from the Requirements Tab of the 'one-off' NA map purchase page:
Please note, these full-version maps do not contain premium content such as junction view or 3-D buildings and terrain. These features only are available on the preloaded maps within your device or through a specific update for the mapping region of your device.

For supported features of your 2689 see here:

Although i don't think 2689 supports 3D Buildings & Landmark or 3D Terrain maps, you can get all the required the ancillary files from the NA map thread. Look at Map Index. You can also dl the map itself of course but it won't work in HWID 2077 as said.

Another way it now seems you can get all NA legally on an EU localised device [although until recently i didn't think it was possible] is to first buy the 'one-off' NA map [DVD version] as a supplemental map and then buy an LM subscription for it which will give you the ancillary files with each future map update download. See here:
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
    From there:
Question: Can I purchase a nuMaps Lifetime subscription for my supplemental maps?
    Answer:
The nuMaps Lifetime subscription can be purchased for supplemental mapping products. In order to update foreign country mapping, a full version of the map must be unlocked to the device. Full version mapping can be purchased in DVD format only.

For example: a full version of City Navigator Europe NT can be purchased and unlocked to a North American device that didn't come with European maps preloaded. With a nuMaps Lifetime subscription of Europe purchased and activated to the device, the European maps can be updated. This is ideal for a customer that travels to Europe often and wants to have current european mapping.

This includes devices that are bundled with a nuMaps Lifetime subscription out of the box for the preloaded mapping and a full version of supplemental mapping has been unlocked to the device. In this case, the result will be the device having two separate lifetime subscriptions.
Expensive way to do it though. $80 for the one-off DVD version then $90 for the numaps Lifetime. A word of caution though, i'd be asking Garmin to assure you that what's written in their Knowledge Base is correct because it is still contradicted in the LM map page which states prominently:
This product only can be used to update the preloaded maps that came installed on your device. For example, a device preloaded with North America maps cannot be updated with nüMaps Lifetime Europe, and vice versa.

Both the Knowledge Base and the Map pages can't be correct unless i'm badly missing the point on something.

Also be aware that if you buy from an EU location you may pay more for NA mapping than if you buy it in US, CA or MX. That's certainly the case for Australia based purchasers.

Thank you so much for the detailed answer.
Seams its not a bad idea to buy a second device in the USA to get all of that in an easy way. Its a shame Garmin is forcing me to buy a second device after 300 euros for the 1st one.
I feel like a fool selling my good old nuvi 1300 for 50 euros 2 weeks ago.

Just an additional info. Wrote to Garmin support. Answer number 1:
'The downloadable version of map are not updatable so the Lifetime maps subscription is not included.

Junction view and 3D buildings is included.

You can redownload the map to a new SD Card if the previous one get faulty.
    Kind regards,

    Answer number 2:

'A Lifetime subscription can be purchased for £74.99 from our website. It is true that map updates can ONLY be obtained for the pre loaded maps on your device.

If you are looking for updateable maps for NZ and the Americas over the long run a separate device would be the cheapest option as our mapping prices all do range from £35-70.

I can also confirm that advanced features such as Junction View only work on the pre loaded map regions. This is because the pre loaded software is partnered with the pre loaded map.

Overall I would conclude that if you are happy with one off maps on a single device that the map downloads are the cheapest solution, however for updatable maps purchasing devices with the corresponded pre loaded mapping is the way to go.
    Kind regards,

    Antonio

I trust answer number 2 is the right one although both originated from the same office, but different people.

Shame that such a big brand works ok only when owning multiple devices of the same kind. Never encountered similar situation.

I don't think it would be feasible to order a DVD to my country because of the shipping cost and customs. Would it work to purchase a digital download of North America NT and dowload JCV files from the forum?

Yes. If you buy a 'one-off' download NA map only, you can then get the ancillary files from here and they will work provided they are for the same version of the map. [I think Jakub needs to update his product knowledge ].

Anyone tried unlocking maps for the new Garmin Touch 25? I have just bought my son one of these for him to use GeoCaching in the UK, I can't stretch to £200 for the official O/S map. I've downloaded and unpacked the "Garmin GB Discoverer 50K All v4 Locked" map and was wondering if anyone has managed to unlock it for new 25??

Use gimgunlock+mapsigpatch and see, some new devices may have got recently protected firmware.

I have a Garmin 52 with the Europe NTU 2016.10 unlocked on an SD Card. I just realized that Garmin put out an additional file, the "D3589180A_JCV" file. How does one go about adding that to the additional SD Card? Do you just add a folder called JCV and place the file in there, on the SD Card?

    Thanks in advance guys!

    Hi
D3589180A.JCV is for City Navigator 2016.30 and doesn't match with your City Navigator version.
    Addition files are version dependant.
