I intend to buy a new device and I am worried about it.
    Thanks.
Now unlocked maps work, except NTU maps

That is correct. Latest FW version 4.40 however allows unlocked NT maps again on nüvi 55/56/65/66, but not sure if that will still be the case after the next FW update. For now, the restriction still applies to nüvi 2xx7/8/9 units.

    Hello,

I'm new to this site. I see you have all the links but I never saw a simplified step-by-step from downloading the map to installing it to the GPS. Most of the tutorial are already advance and very confusing, jumping all over and they're hard to understand. Please help! Thanks!

I have a Garmin 3760. Please teach me step-by-step how to get the latest EU map. Thank you.

G'day navitravel, welcome to GPS Power. Interesting first post.

Although i haven't written the individual tuts you've mentioned, i feel the need to defend against your statements regardless. The tuts are plainly written, targeted for individual requirements and not confusing etc in my opinion. I've held that same opinion i've just expressed unchanged since joining over 4 years ago when i had hardly more knowledge of GPS than how to enter an address and navigate from the spoken directions. Everything i know now had initially came from those tuts you're criticising [they're the basic ones btw] and with that as a knowledge base was built upon further from other threads and posts. I don't recall asking more than a couple of times for assistance, and then it was specific not generic help i was seeking. I'm no towering intellectual and i'm not implying you're not intelligent, perhaps the difference is simply in how we apply ourselves as individuals and how much effort we expect to have to make in gaining the knowledge rather than it being 'instilled' in us?

Please have another read of the tuts, if you're still confused then post again either here or in a specific tut thread asking for targeted assistance. From your request above it's not possible to know if you want help loading, for example, an entire OEM LM 'official' map image, an 'unlocked/unofficial' map image, or a portion of a map from a PC Installed version [either official or unofficial]. So give us as much information as possible to help us help you, but only after you've again tried to help yourself by carefully reading the tuts with an open mind.

Sometimes it's overwhelming with all sorts of do(s) and don't(s). But you're in good hand with Neil helping. In a nutshell
    1. Find the map of the region(s) you're interested in. They will be of the following format: .gmap or .img Pick .img if you are only interest in using the map and not manipulating it.
    2. The .img will be original (locked) or unlocked format. You can download the locked image and use proggy to unlocked it. Again, it's probably easier to get the unlocked .img
    3. The .img is just the map, download others features like junction view (.jcv), speech recognition (.asr), voices (.vpm), etc...
    4. Put them in appropriate places depending on your GPS unit.

I would look for a version before the latest to avoid any potential issues or problems (not yet resolved). Once you're able to get it working, then doing the exercise again with latest version is good practice. User search to find your map (but be aware that 3 letters search won't work); you're better off googling it. Also on some newer unit, "unlocking" it might not work due to Garmin new and "improve" protection scheme.

Exactly, I used the gimgunlock. But still get the same message.

I guess I have done a wrong step to upload the maps.

    1. Downloaded the img files
    2. Plugged in my gps to computer and opened the Map folder and deleted the old file and copied the new 2016.1 ver,
    3. I switch on and get the cannot unlock map message
    4. I Tried putting back the old version and still get the same message.

    Sorry guys pls help.

Sorry, my bad. I guess it was the 3dfiles.img which was not unlocked. I tried unlocking both the map.img and the 3dmap.img and it seems working fine now in the sd card first and I copied it to the device and all seems to be well.

Just have a quick noob question....if someone can confirm. I pretty much have the hang of things, downloading, unlocking etc.

I have a garmin echomap 50dv with 2 microsd slots, and plan to use both. Tell me if i have things right please.

    Slot #1 sd: garmin\gmapsupp.img
    Slot #2 sd: garmin\gmapsup1.img

    both files unlocked.

Am i naming them correctly ?? thanks
