Garmin mountain bike OpenStreetmap Deutschland and Alps

For tours stop at every intersection to look at the map? The best way to miss because it rushes past them?

Those days are over! Thanks to the project Openmtbmap.org it is possible to be guided by his GPS device on the scenic trails to the target. When the route is preferred trails, forest and used bike paths.

On MTBNavi.de there are ready-made, easy to install maps for Garmin GPS units, based on the Open Mountain Bike Maps project. The maps are published under a Creative Commons license. Many thanks to Felix, the creator of the cards!

To install the zip folder, open it by double-clicking and dragging the file gmapsupp.img in the GARMIN folder on the memory of the GPS device.

Setting for the route in the GPS device:
- Leadership: Follow road
- Follow-up roads: Shorter time
- Abbiegekommando: On
- Recalculation: Automatically
- Calculation Method: Best Route
- Calculate route: Auto / Motorcycle

If there are no trails will be navigated to avoid the "toll roads" to select.

Forest roads are shown in red or dashed. The black lines next to the blue-marked trails provide the difficulty based on the single trail af scale.
The automatic routing function selects the best path away from the streets.


To install the downloaded file to start and select any folder. The card appears after the installation directly in MapSource.

In MapSource using the following settings for the routing:
- Use route: Auto Routing
- Vehicle: Car / Motorcycle
- Type of calculation: Shorter time
- Street choice: prefer highways

If there are no trails are desired to avoid the "if possible: Select Toll Road".

The mountain bike map for Garmin RoadTrip (Mac OS X).

To install unzip the zipped folder by double-clicking, then double-click the file with the map icon and choose "Install".

RoadTrip in the "iTrip" - "Preferences" - "Routing" to set the following:
- Auto Routing
- Calculation mode: Shortest Time
- Road preference: roads / highways

If there are no trails are desired, click the option "Avoid: toll roads.
