Hmm, I have searched the phone mem and the SD card, via phone and also PC but no sis file, perhaps this is because I have used the UK stand alone version of Garmin XT which does not have the .exe file to run as per the guide?

OK just tried to do an uninstall and reinstall following the guide. The problem I seem to have is the downloaded zip file has no .exe file to use as instructed, instead there is a .sis file and other folders in the unzipped folder. Any idea what the problem is or should I use a different download version to solve the problem.

you should have a file manager on your phone like LCG x-plore
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
install it and browse to your sd card content
usually it's drive E -- at the end of the folder list you'll f ind the file Garmin MobileXT.sis
    run it
if you cant find it follow the guide

Sure thing, will do that now and feed back results. My mistake for not using the file manager app, I didn't get that part of the process but will stick to the guide as everybody else seems to have breezed it.

OK, have done that but no .sis file on the SD card. I have again checked the guide, it says to run the downloaded .exe file, the problem is the down load is not an exe file. This is the point where I can not follow the guide. What am I missing here? or is the process different for the "UK stand-alone" version downloaded from [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] on the garmin forum?

Understood. I will not post here until I am back on the trail of the topo software. I was about to ask if this was inappropriate for the topic, apologies for the digression but much gratitude for the guidance and patience.
For the benefit of others like me, if you download theGarmin XT V 5.00.60 UK US Gk standalone version on the [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] thread, you will not find an .exe file and so will not be able to follow the guide (as detailed in my previous posts). As Catymag has instructed download the file from Catymags first post and everything makes sense. Sometimes I have to make a mistake to learn a lesson so sorry for that.

After you install MapSource as suggested by catymag, and install this map to mapsource and unlocked it followin instructions from first post,
transfer complete map from MapSource to your local drive (C).
In folder C:\Garmin you will have file gmapsupp.img.
If you already have one map on your phone, rename this one to gmapsup2.img and copy it to \Garmin folder on SD card of your phone.
If this will be only map on your phone, just copy it as it is in \Garmin folder on SD card of your phone or you could transfer it directly from MapSource to connected phone (Garmin Mobile XT).
I have got mapsource v6161 installed now and the map unlocked by following the instructions. Problem is when I try to transfer the map to PC local drice (C) I am only offered the choice of "send to device" or "receive from device", I can't see how to send to a folder on the local (PC) disk drive as instructed.

Oh Yes deep joy. The patch works very easily, I followed the instructions given and can now save map to local disk on PC. Can't wait for the weekend out on the bikes so thanks for all the help.
