    Default Nuvi 1390 unbranding

I bought from ebay a used Nuvi 1390 with CN Europe NT 2012.10 maps. Unfortunately is branded to "Europcar" as I see in the splash screen. Is there any way to remove branding from my device?

    1. Place the image (in JPG format) you want to show at startup in the JPEG folder of the nüvi (it's in the root).
    2. Turn on the device and select Tools -> Picture Viewer -> select the image of your choice -> (i) -> tick 'Display on power on?'

    1. To access the internal memory of the device, make sure the Garmin USB drivers are installed on your PC:

    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
    2. Connect the device with your PC via a mini-USB cable.
    3. Open Windows Explorer and you will see the nüvi 1390 as an external storage device.

As for the (i) selection, this is what I see in the Picture Viewer in my nüvi 1390T (after selecting the floral picture):

You have a ex-hirecar nuvi it seems. It may be running custom firmware in region 14 [0x0E]. Please advise it's HWID: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. It may also have a custom logo flashed to region 16 [0x10] which includes information and feature control over and above the splash screen it displays on boot. If the HWID is either 1104 or 0972 please make a copy of both rgn14 and rgn16 and post them here for further examination before we can help you further. Read: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Ask for more detail and help if you're unsure.

The screenshot function [if available to your 'custom' 1390] is found by Tools>Settings>Display>Screenshot then select 'Enabled'.

My nuvi is <PartNumber>006-B0972-00</PartNumber> I can't figure out the rgn 14/16 values. There is no *.rgn file in my nuvi, only some *.gcd files.

The regions are not files. They're like protected hidden partitions and can't be seen on a PC.

Just extract this RAR file to a clean microSD [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], insert it in your 1390 and turn it on. If your device's battery is low connect it to a power source. Wait for it to finish and reboot, then remove the card. In the root of the card you'll find two new files, 14.bin and 16.bin. Post them here please.

As expected the logo [16.bin] is significantly different to a standard 1xxx logo and it's not limited only to the start-up images either.

    logo 0

I suspect that it's the info in region 16 which controls the function differences you've already noted, and there may well be other limitations as well.

Interestly, apart from a differing checksum there is only one single byte difference between your dumped 14.bin and the standard firmware. I'm not sure of the significance or otherwise of that yet.

Could you also dump region 127 [0x7F] please? [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Same instructions as before however this will also backup your nonvol region 41 before backing up 127. Keep 41.bin in a safe place in case it's needed later and post only the 127.bin please.
