Default Zumo 660 Unbricked is not working [SOLVED!]

    Hi Guys,

I got a zumo 660 that had System Software Missing message.
I used Kunixs cure 3 to get it in Mass Storage mode and deleted all the files that could cause the problem, disconnected the device from the computer to flash the original firmware.
    Then start the problem...
Insted of flash the firmware it is behaving like a pen drive. I can not get the firmware running, because it connects to the computer and does not appear at Updater program. It seems that does not allow me to go in Pre boot mode.

I tried to format with [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] , run webupdater but when I disconnect it does not update.

    Any tip, please

    Thanks

'System Software Missing' message at it's most benign and usual simply means that region 14 is either corrupt or empty. In such a state, there is no need to cure and remove files or reformat usually. Simply re-flashing original firmware is sufficient to restore fw_all.bin to rgn14 and allow the device to function normally. So try to flash ORIGINAL firmware but to do so you'll of course need to attain preboot mode. How are you trying to get into preboot? For zumo 660 you need to hold the lower (not the usual upper) left corner of the screen.

Note that if it's a problem with region 14 then the device usually defaults to preboot anyway. So the fact that you're unable to attain preboot might mean that it's a problem with the flash chip unfortunately.

I´ve solved others equipment with cure 3, thats is the reason why I went direct to this way.
Do you think there is how to solve it?

A device which is 'bricked' by a corrupt file like a map or voice or gpx file is certainly fixable by loading it with cure fw, removing the offending file/s or reformatting then loading original firmware. However, I don't believe your problem of 'system software missing' was likely due to files at all, indeed it was in fact not due to corrupt file/s.

Do you think there is how to solve it?
As I wrote in Post #2 above, 'system software missing' message indicates a different type of 'bricking' which (usually) involves the main system software aka firmware contained in region 14 either being corrupt or empty, i.e. even missing entirely. Therefore there is no need in such a case to use cure firmware to enter MSM with the object of deleting files or formatting. Mostly when that message shows on attempted boot, it's quite sufficient to load original firmware to properly restore region 14 and that's usually immediately possible in preboot as an RGN file via Updater.exe because the device should have defaulted to preboot, which means no MSM available until region 14 is reflashed anyway.

Although it was probably not necessary for cure fw to be used, when you loaded the cure fw you did reflash region 14 however although MSM was then enabled the device still cannot start because that's the purpose of cure fw, to stall the boot by not loading the files required for a complete boot. Now you are reporting that you're unable to attain preboot and that may be for one or two sinister reasons, either your flash of cure fw was not good or the device has damage to the flash chip. There's another possibility that you're simply not doing it right to attain preboot. So I have to ask again "How are you trying to get into preboot?". By that I mean what method, i.e. are you holding the LOWER left corner of the screen?

You're forcing it off by continuing to hold the power button. You only need to press the button briefly to power it but must then continue to hold the screen. An even better way to power it on in preboot is to have the firmware loaded to Updater.exe with it's GUI visible on your desktop. Have a USB cable connected directly to a rear port of the PC (no hub). Ensure the zumo is completely OFF. Hold the screen and connect the cable to the zumo while watching the window next to USB Device on the GUI, immediately the device details appear press enter key of PC keyboard or click 'OK' on Updater. Keep holding screen until flash is finished or at least hold until 'Loader' or similar shows on screen.

You didn't have this difficulty when you flashed the Cure firmware because with 'System Software Missing' the device had defaulted to preboot anyway so when you connected it to PC you didn't need to hold the screen, just power it on for Updater to see it.

    I got it!!
    Thanks a lot!!
I changed the computer, the cable, and it worked!!
I flashed the original firmware, made by Cure3, and runned a webupdater. Copied back all the remaining folders and files.
    Everything ok!
    Thank you very much!!

Great. If you ever see 'system software message' on another device just flash original firmware with Updater.exe as the device should be already in preboot. Using Cure fw isn't required because that problem is never due to a corrupt file in the file system, rather it's usually due to corrupt or missing firmware in region 14. You're lucky that's what it was, at it's most serious the message can mean the flash chip is physically damaged.
