    Default 60 csx maps

I am recently having problems with my garmin 60csx. All of my maps show unlockable, however, I can't load any Garmin map on my 60csx. I get the message can't unlock map on my device. I used to be able to load multiple maps on the device but now I can only load non garmin maps. Except every once in a while it will load a 2008 Topo segment. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

    Thanks

Use latest [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] on the img files and there should be no problems.

Unlock each img map file with gimgunlock and then create a mapset file out of the unlocked img files using gmaptool.

I have a question. I have been using Mapsource to load my maps. It used to work fine but I am having problems now. All the maps show unlocked I ( i used the software before on each map directory) but when I load them on the 60csx the unit gives me the cannot unlock maps message. Can I not use Mapsource anymore? I tired using gmaptool but it isn't very intuitive and I am having trouble. Do I just load all the img from Bluechart into the software and then create one mapset file to put on the memory card?

    Thanks, Larry

Development of MapSource has been terminated at some point in 2011. Maps published since, have become progressively more incompatible with MapSource. It is therefore strongly discouraged to use MapSource for map handling. Use BaseCamp and MapInstall instead.

The "original" MapInstall invoked from BaseCamp is not the best tool, it is like looking at the world through a straw.
Use this excellent version instead [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and you will have almost as good UI as with good old MapSource.

Are you using the 60CSx as a marine device primarily? If so, most modern marine maps are not supplied in 'Mapsource' versions [where the mapping data is loaded to PC so that partial mapping can then be sent to a device]. Nor are most Topo maps supplied that way these days. Certainly in the past MapSource [MS] was used for both land and marine data tasks, but now BaseCamp [BC] is used for land maps and HomePort [HP] for marine charts when dealing with the PC mapping data [but only on the PC] and also to send and receive waypoints, routes and track log data to and from device/PC. The PC-loaded mapping was formerly always called 'Mapsource Version' or 'Map Source Data' and often still is. Both the 'newer' BC & HP softwares actually invoke MapInstall [MI] to do the job of compiling and transferring data from 'PC Installs' as an img file to a device or it's SD card as applicable. So here's where i think you might be confused, the old MS could do both jobs of send/receive waypoints etc AND compile/send a gmapsupp.img. BC and HP can't do the latter, they simply open MI when asked to do so via 'Install Maps' or 'Install Charts'.

Now your 60CSx can use a card up to 32GB SDHC no problem, provided the actual img file is kept below 4GiB in size [and you don't exceed the maximum number of map FIDs and map tiles (segments), virtually impossible as your 60 can handle up to 2,025 tiles]. The easiest answer is to just use multiple SD cards for individual BCs or Topo/CNs and swap them out as needed. That way you don't need to worry about using either MS or MI to load them, simply copy and paste the unlocked img file as gmapsupp.img to a Garmin folder in the root of the card [sd\Garmin\gmapsupp.img]. Garmin supplies all individual map and chart img files under 4GiB.
